Port forwarding troubles (SOLVED)

I'm having trouble opening up the ports required for Diablo 3 to function. I'm using a Motorola/Netopia 2210-02-1006 DSL modem with a WRT310Nv2 wireless router, with Ubuntu 12.04. After setting up both the router and DSL modem to forward the ports with no success, I put the DSL model into bridged ethernet mode, but the ports in question are still blocked. When I test the ports on canyouseeme.org, the ports I've set to be forwarded are instantly refused, but all other ports time out after a few seconds. The Ubuntu firewall is entirely disabled by default, and I have made no changes to it.

Any help would be very greatly appreciated.

The following command resolves the issue:
echo 0|sudo tee /proc/sys/kernel/yama/ptrace_scope

Something to keep in mind (if you are not aware of it), is that when the Motorola/Netopia 2210-02-1006 and the WRT310Nv2 are both in router mode, you will probably need to put your WRT310Nv2's WAN IP address into the 2210's DMZ (if I recall correctly Motorola calls it "Default NAT and/or Static NAT" instead of DMZ), and then do your forwarding entirely in the WRT310Nv2.

Since you have already had problems with forwarding when the 2210 was in bridge mode, that indicates to me that you have forwarding problems in the WRT310Nv2. You may want to ask your question in the »Linksys forum if you intend to keep using your WRT310Nv2 as a router instead of just an access point.

If you want to try using the 2210 as your primary router and using the WRT310Nv2 as just an access point, you can look at this site FAQ for generic instructions on how to do that: »Wireless Networking Forum FAQ »Using a Wireless Router as an Access Point

FWIW, the 2210 also has an IP passthrough mode that passes the public IP address to a router behind it whose WAN is set for DHCP (while the 2210 still does the PPPoE authentication). This mode eliminates NAT to the secondary router, and forwarding would need to be done in the secondary router. I have had some limited success with that mode in the past, but it is not compatible with all routers.

Here are a couple of screen shots that I saved from when I used a 2210-02-1006 that show where to setup the Default NAT and IP Passthrough (you can't use both modes at the same time...you have to chose one):

Another thing to keep in mind, is that when you go to an external port test/scan site, you need to have the service being tested active when the scan is done. If the service is not active, the port scanner will not see the open connection (it is not enough to just setup the port forwarding in your router(s)).

For example, shown below are screen shots showing that the FTP service is being forwarded to my current workstation, the results of a port scan when the service is not actually running, and the results of a port scan when the service is running:

Your last impulse there was correct, it wasn't a problem with the ports after all, but rather with 64 bit Ubuntu. Thanks so much for your help, that's one of the most in-depth support posts I've seen in a while.
