Re: Xfinity TV on the X1 Platform and X1 Remote Control App!Looks pretty slick, but a Major disappointment that the remote is iOS. Android should be there at release too it is a major mobile OS. |

I believe the X1 boxes will come with the new XR2 RF remote control: Comcast XFINITY TV XR2 Remote » customer.comcast.com/hel ··· -remote/and XFINITY TV XR2 Remote Control User's Guide» media2.comcast.net/anon. ··· 2911.pdf |

is comcast distributing these remotes now? I'd like to pick one up if so. Did he say that most of the country would have it by the end of the year? |
|
|
As the web page says: "The new XFINITY TV XR2 Remote Control is rolling out with Comcast set-top boxes running the latest version of the on-screen guide. Later this year the XFINITY TV XR2 Remote will also be rolling out with High-Definition (HD) Digital Transport Adapter (DTA) devices."
So, it looks like these new remotes are only being distributed with newer boxes, like for the X1 platform, that are RF remote capable.
They will also be supplied with the HD-DTAs, whenever they are released. |

NOTE: Comcast's Press Release (see excerpt below) says X1 will launch in Boston in the coming weeks and will be available in several major markets this year. Comcast's schedules have been overly optimistic in the past. The press release describes a limited deployment this year and does not provide specific deployment dates. quote: PHILADELPHIA & BOSTON, May 21, 2012 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- --Available in the Coming Weeks in Boston; More Markets to Follow This Year
Comcast, one of the nation's leading providers of entertainment, information, and communications products and services, announced today it will launch its next-generation television experience, Xfinity TV on the X1 Platform, and a new X1 remote control app in the coming weeks. This cloud-enabled platform, unlike any other video service existing today, delivers the world's largest collection of video and transforms the TV into an entirely new integrated entertainment experience. These new products will launch in Boston with several major markets planned to follow this year, and will be available to new Xfinity Triple Play with HD/DVR service customers at no additional cost.

Unfortunately, I haven't received an updated roll-out schedule from that "inside source," but it looks like you can figure that the dates have now slipped by about a month so far. |

Re: Xfinity TV on the X1 Platform and X1 Remote Control App!Who is the idiot that put the vol and ch button at the top of the remote? That's such an unnatural way to hold a remote when changing channels!
They really screwed up on the remote's design. |

Strangely, the article states: Early on, Comcast will introduce that capability on the RNG 150, an IP-capable HD digital set-top (also made by Pace) that has the horsepower necessary to run the new cloud-based guide.
The only RNG150 box that I knew about is the one made by Cisco (which I have). However, this page on Comcast's site also shows an RNG150 that is made by Samsung: »customer.comcast.com/hel ··· ramming/
The author might have the RNG150 confused with the Pace RNG110 box that is detailed in the article (»www.lightreading.com/doc ··· d=199901) that he referenced right after that statement. Pace is a branded distributor of Samsung hardware, as is the case with the RNG110. Very possible the "Samsung RNG150" has a Pace logo on the front. |

Are these Pace Boxes, like the RNG110, used on "Motorola" systems only, or on SA/Cisco ones too? Anyway, don't know if Comcast is already using these, or will be using a Pace "RNG150" box as part of the X1 deployment then. |

I think the RNG STBs can be used in both Motorola and SA/Cisco markets when used with the new guides that use Tru2way. RNG is a Comcast specification that is used by different companies that make STBs. X1 will initially be deployed on the new Pace Gateway and then on the RNG STBs. |

OK, thanks. Yes, as it said in that referenced article ("Comcast 'RNG' Set-Tops Have IPTV Potential") the RNG boxes are built to conform to Comcast's "Residential Network Gateway" specs, and should be able to run the newest program guides. I also heard back from the author, and he said that at the Cable Show, Pace demonstrated what it called a "second generation" RNG150 box as a companion to the X1: » www.lightreading.com/doc ··· umber=22A user guide for it can be found at: » www.pace.com/Documents/M ··· User.pdf |

said by mikedz4:when will my area get this box? I don't think anyone knows that yet. Only a few markets have been ID'ed/rumored so far, as mentioned in the Light Reading Cable article and my previous posts. |
