I just had the X1 installed on 8-19-12. Install was painless, he was out of the house within 30 mins. I was swapped out a DCX 34XX for it. Overall the box is nice. Some of the new features like the sports app and the new guide work pretty good.

The way the 3 tuners work is that you still can only record 2 shows at one time, but now you can also watch another live show while the other 2 are recording or watch something previously recorded. I assume comcast is doing this so people don't get rid of 2nd or 3rd DVR's.

Couple of things I miss (or its too early to tell) is the option to search by just sports. Now everything is a universal search so trying to find what sports are on right now is a pain.

As of right now for the same price it's worth the change to the X1 DVR.

Only 3 tuners thats kind of disappointing to hear

What was all the talk about the new box having like 6 tuners?

And the fact that it has 3 tuners and you can still only record 2 programs at the sametime instead of 3 really blows the big one!

In my opinion these new boxes should have at least 4 tuners and allow you to record 4 things at the sametime if we need to.

Who's bright idea at Comcast was this?

Also whats the Hard Drive size? Atleast 1TB hopefully?

And are these new guides on these boxes at least a lot less buggy then the crappy guildes we have been using for years now?

The box is capable of 6 tuners but Comcast activates only 3.

hard drive is 500GB .

Less buggy so far but I want to give it some time to see.

The current dual tuners also allow you to watch a previously recorded show while recording 2 other shows. What is new is the ability to watch a live show while recording 2 other shows.

Was there a charge for getting the X1 box installed? If so, how much was it?

said that you can't use more then 1 drv in multi room

They should let the X1 use all tuner and have be used in multi room.

Directv wins again.

Some other things I've noticed:

When the box is powered off there is not time display on it at all.

When you are recording there is also no Red light on the box indicating that you are recording.

No input button on the remote to change inputs on the TV.

Also no Power button for the box itself, only all on/off and TV power.

According to this front panel view that was shown for the Pace X1 box »Re: Xfinity TV on the X1 Platform and X1 Remote Control App! , it does show a "Record Light." Are you saying that it's just not functioning or that it is missing from the X1 box you were provided?

The indicator for record is on the box, but never comes on.

Interesting. I wonder if that's just a problem with your particular box, or that Comcast has disabled that indicator for some reason?

Thank you for that information.

I was trying to confirm the comment pointed to by this link post that there is an installation charge for existing customers:

Please click the link to see the FierceCable story about deploying X1 on Motorola. The following excerpt stood out to me since it is not about Motorola Mobility:

"Licensing deal could help Comcast deploy X1 on Motorola Mobility set-tops and gateways"

Comcast recently began testing a CloudTV software platform from ActiveVideo on its system in Chattanooga, Tenn.

Here is an excerpt about ActiveVideo's CloudTV platform that Comcast is testing in Chattanooga and was written before Comcast started deploying X1 in Atlanta. Click the link for the FierceCable story.

Comcast spokeswoman Kenni Moyer said the MSO began testing the ActiveVideo platform in Chattanooga earlier this year. She said that the ActiveVideo technology is not part of its new X1 digital video product, which Comcast has deployed in Boston and plans to deploy in other major markets.

Most - if not all - of the RNG (Residential Network Gateway) boxes throughout Comcast's footprint (in Motorola areas at least) are manufactured by Pace; however, Cisco Systems has their own completely separate RNG STB lineup in their own (and Scientific Atlanta) areas. (We have an RNG110 in an upstairs bedroom that is, in fact, the *only* HD-capable STB in the house; it has an internal (red) M-card which can be seen through the cooling slats.)

you forgot the the Motorola DCX3501 says on the front of the box RNG200N so it technically is an RNG box

what about people with current premier triple play?

According to the Ted Hodgins Comcast blog you didn't have to get a specific box (Motorola DCX3501) as the X1 platform should work on all DCX models? Is the X1 a platform or a box as the X1 website doesn't show any box on the site or faqs? According to his blog it's a platform that can go on any capable (newer) box but I have no idea why Comcast is making their loyal customers suffer. The only reason I can see is that they know they can't get away with a decade old guide today and new users would hate it right away but older, loyal users are just used to it. WTF?

If you are already in a triple play bundle I don't believe you can get it. It looks like only the Greater Boston region would even allow it.

The X1 is a platform that is only loaded on the newest boxes. (not sure if comcast will evenutally have it on all DCX boxes right now they don't).

I think Comcast isn't having the current customers have it is because of truck rolls. They don't want to roll a truck for it. A new customer is going to have a truck roll regardless so they can get X1 at the same time. (just my 2 cents)

Eventually current customers will have it just like the Greater Boston region is doing now.

Noticed today when I logged into my account on Comcast.net - that on the Users & Settings tab, there was now a section titled:

X1 Platform Settings

Anyone else in other areas seeing this?? Just curious if this is an indicator of it coming soon, or if everyone nationwide can see this.

They COULD give all NEW Whole home dvr customers the x1 box since it requires a truck roll anyways. Heck they could probably even give existing whole home dvr customers an x1 box at the service center.

why would they launch a new box that isn't anyroom compatible. Guess that means I can't get it even when it is launched here as I have anyroom dvr.

Comcast currently does not support AnyRoom DVR with the Pace X1 Gateway, but Comcast is working to support it.
See »Re: [DVR] Spectrum Quad Tuner DVR revealed

When Comcast makes AnyRoom DVR available with the Pace X1 Gateway, I hope Comcast will allow all 6 tuners to record simultaneously..

Awful Reviews on the Comcast Forums

Eeeep.

Just read some of the customer reviews of the X1 box on the Comcast forums...

Definitely not what I wanted to see.
