said by Steve Mehs:I have Comcast at my home in Springfield, MA (which uses Motorola) and I travel quite frequently to my Grandmother's home in Biddeford, Maine (which is Time Warner turf and they are on a SA/Cisco platform). I had to swap out an SA Explorer 2100 (which died on us) and they gave me one of the new Samsung HD boxes. Also I was finally able to swap out that piece of junk DPC 2203 for a brand new Ubee EMTA complete with battery. Grandma is currently staying at our house right now while she recovers from an illness and she is getting spoiled with my TiVo premiere DVRs that I have on my Comcast connection. said by IowaCowboy:
I think the Cisco/SA boxes are junk anyways. Another cable provider (Time Warner) stopped buying the Cisco hardware and now buys Samsung set-tops and Ubee Modems.
Where did you get that very incorrect information from?
Time Warner (and Brighthouse) are both handing out the newly released Cisco 8742HDC HD DVRs and 4742HDC HD set top terminals in quite a few areas. The Samsungs have taken a backseat. To my knowledge, TW never handed out real Cisco modems. All of the modems they handed out where Scientific Atlantic models from before Cisco bought them. For modems, TW hands out both UBee and Motorola D3 modems and possibly Arris. Last week when I was at Time Warner’s main headend in Rochester a fresh shipment of some type of hardware from Arris came in but I couldn’t tell what it was.
