kudos:9 | [Chat] New computer I got a Dell XPS 8500 which was delivered yesterday. It's kinda overkill for my other uses but maybe I won't be the slowest here, anymore. If so, it won't be by as much. 
It's on line (using it now) but not set up and stable to add F@H yet.

Yes, I got the wife a DEll XPS 8300 last year with an i7 Sandy Bridge and her's puts my older Core2 duo to shame even with a GPU client. I think yours is the next generation i7 Ivy Bridge. Nice Computer! Even her chops can't make up the difference. |

Enjoy that new computer smell. When the time comes, I think most people agree the Version 7 FAH client is pretty stable now and least problematic to install.
We have several using it now who can help you find it and get it running properly on your new Dell.
I think you're going to be rather amazed at its performance over the older one.

Yeah, I understand. I got a refurb video card because of TH and what we do. It is nice to have it, but a cheaper card would otherwise have been fine. Good folks here, working on something together.
Your i5 is more than adequate, it runs circles around everything else. I'm running a Phenom II, which is way behind the new core processors.

My quad core seems to unfairly rack up points.
Not the challenge of the much older boxen of the past.
Hopefully the more powerful boxen will deliver victory to our children! (Or sooner!!!)

Re: [Chat] New computer I don't know about slowest. My few remaining boxen are getting ancient. I won't be looking for anything new for some time now and, even then, depending on some family circumstances and priorities.
They are still meeting their deadlines and chewing everything quite thoroughly, though, so it's all good.
