[X1] x1 or new hd in pittsburgh area (non-adelphia)?

I'm tired of waiting... when is comcast goin to add more hd channels or the x1 product in the non-adelphia areas of western pennsyvania, northern west virginia and eastern ohio?

I wish I had a patio or balcony or live in a place that didn't prohibit satellite.
When my lease is up in december I am finding a place that allows a dish and may switch to directv.

has been kinda odd us ex-adelphia are getting all the upgrades first, but then they basically rebuild all our headends with new equipment after the takeover..

thing is I have an 860mhz system and by this time next year I might be 1ghz BUT they might not have room for more channels even after the remaining analog are removed next month supposedly.

Why wouldn't they have room for more HD channels if the analog channels are being removed? What is the freed up bandwidth being used for?

BTW, don't expect much from the 860Mhz-1Ghz bandwidth for awhile... CPE that can use it is somewhat limited, other than DOCSIS 3 modems.

If it's important, back it up... twice. Even 99.999% availability isn't enough sometimes.

ummm wut?!?!

most MSO (comcast especially) arent running their docsis carriers are the top of the spectrum....doing so would be very very VERY dumb .....not just because of loss, but due to technical limitations that would cause issues (group delay, roll off, etc)....

MANY systems are 870mhz.....1 ghz system are rare....

but most d2 modems range up to 870mhz....

same goes for digital boxes....most (excluding OLD OLD boxes) also range to 870...

I don't know why you don't have more if you are 860mhz... we still have 750 MHz nodes and technically are a 750MHz system, they are putting 1GHz nodes in as the old 750MHz nodes fail though, but there has not been a system wide replacement here and nor is one planned...

on 750MHz we have 8 channel down DOCSIS 3, 2 channel up, 150 HD channels plus all the SD channels... zero analogs even locals are QAM digital channels.. they sure crammed a lot into our area we have QAM's on the high end too, our system is pretty full now after our last HD adds

I was told that I may see 5 or 6 new channels depending on bandwidth and programming obligations.

When/if he switches to DirecTV (WE here should be SO lucky!) I GUARANTEE you he'll want even MORE HD then - since they are probably missing MORE basic HD channels than most CC systems currently are.
I'm SURE as much of a busy life he has, he has not researched this out first!

You misunderstood what I wrote.

I said "DON'T expect much from the 860Mhz-1Ghz bandwidth for awhile". In others not much is going to use it, mainly for the reasons you went into which I already know..

5 or 6 HD channels take up the same bandwidth as 2 analog channels.

So how many other analog channels do you have that are going to be turned off? 30? 60? more?

no i did understand what you wrote...you said not to....i said the only thing they dont put up high are docsis carriers..

most all cpe equipment makes use up to 870 as i wrote....so they use 256 qams for digital all the way up....no reason not to use it if its there...

I have 14 analog channels left to go to digital. So if 5 hd is equal to 2 analog then I SHOULD have room for a bunch more hd channels. I'm sure some of that bandwidth will be reserved for future services and maybe they will add other channels but I can't see how I would only see 5 or 6 new hd channels.
And I am paying $215 a month for digital premier plus an hd box.

I do want the x1 service also.

Re: [X1] x1 or new hd in pittsburgh area (non-adelphia)?

I've seen some modem signal pages posted on this site with channel bonding in the 870-890 MHz range. I forget which company, I want to say Cox or Charter.

You can put a downstreams on RF CHs 133,134,135,136,137,138,139,140 (849 - 891 MHz)

The Docsis 1.1/2.0 can still lock onto 133,134 or 135 (849 - 861 MHz)
Docsis 3.0 modems will lock onto any random 4, or all 8 if you have an 8X4 modem.

Hey whatever happened to Vyyo 3 GHz overlay?

If Mike goes back to DirecTV, he'll continually ask why it won't add more HD.

Exactly. Though there are 12 "test" channels on D12 tp9 and 10. No one knows what they are.

They are in desperate need of bandwidth and D14 bird isn't going to be operational for another year.

I like the DirecTV HD Guide and Multiroom DVR but I think the X1 software looks much smoother. Better use of a 16:9 display anyway.

And realize Comcast has about 20 channels or more that DirecTV doesn't have.

its not so much a company, but regions, but i would bitch and moan every day i came to work about having docsis carriers that high. but then again if its a 1gig system, amps are screaming hot, and not more then 5-6 deep....but in anycase it would be a nightmare to work in a system like that...

The new batch of 10 HD channels (Bloomberg, BBCA, NatGeo Wild, GSN, Oxygen, PBS Kids Sprout, The Hub, NBA TV, Fox Soccer Channel, GolTV) have appeared on the lineups in Punxsutawney and Windber.

Of course, both of these were former Adelphia areas.

EDIT: They have also appeared on the Ross/Castle Shannon system in suburban Pittsburgh that is NOT a former Adelphia area.

I'll know when they appear on Zap2It, Mike. You'll probably know before I do with either an announcement in your area or they'll just appear as a surprise in the guide one day when you're searching the way our last HD channel batch here was added.

I only find out what I do by searching to update my nationwide HD spreadsheet. I've tried to compile and compare every lineup that I can find.
