It's not based on POI but rather node, which is only ~200 houses. I'm still at 4x1 here in Kitchener, there's lots of places that are. |

Ottawa hasn't been upgraded yet. GTA first, then Toronto and then everywhere else in Ontario. |

Parts of Ottawa have been upgraded as their are people out in Kanata that have been reporting bonding. |

Anybody can translate this conversation in layman terms? What is upstream channel bonding? Is 4x1 the lumber you can pick up at Home Depot ? |

Its the number of channels available to transfer data. Think of it this way. You own a house (cable modem) and you have 4 water pipes coming in (downstream) but 1 sewer pipe going out (upstream). |

Does this mean we will get higher upload speeds? |

If you have the largely used Thomson modem, go to: » 192.168.100.1/Diagnostics.asp
As you can see, I still only have 1 Upstream (Return Path). I'm on Fallowfield POI.

Im on Kitchener POI and I get 4x2 Just did a modem reboot a few mins ago but did not get 8x2 bonding. I take it that the POI does not give 8x2 for every person connected to it? How does it determine the number of bonded channels to give out to each peer? |

Yes, in Ajax (just east of Toronto). I am still on 4x1 with a relatively congested street. Get about 15 Mbps down during peak hours. |

How does it determine the number of bonded channels to give out to each peer? There's two issues here: 1) Which modem do you have? The Motorolas only support 4 downstream channels. 2) It's based on node not POI. There's several hundred nodes on the Kitchener POI. Some are 8x2, some like mine are 4x1, some are 4x2. Until Rogers offers higher speeds the 8 downstream channels aren't really required anyways, you shouldn't be experiencing slowdowns with 4. |

I've got the SB6120. I did not realize before that it only supports 4 bonded channels up and down. That would explain it. |
