Argh! My area of Ottawa still hasn't been upgraded! We must be getting close to being the last.

Today I joined the 8/4 club. The price of membership was 'no internet for you' for about 12 hours.

I noticed it was down before I left for work at 7am. Returning home around 6pm and after supper it was still down. It took about half an hour of fiddling with modem & router resets and ipconfig /release & /renew to finally get internet back.

Just checked modem diagnostic page, and voila - it's 8 down, 4 up.

So should I notice any difference? A speedtest showed over 36 Mbps down on 28 Mbps service - but that might be due to the sudden absence of bit-torrent traffic on Teksavvy servers.

Your speeds will remain the same just split among the 8x4 channels. This will help in the event of node congestion at the very least. Until the last mile provider gives out higher QAM's and frequencies. (Or finally allows the speedmatching they're supposed to have [currently pending before the CRTC, more on this in other threads] and if so then we *might* expect a 35/3 bump up, possibly).
