Looking for a dual band mobile

I wonder if most will fit in the single slot under a radio? That's my most biggest concern and remote head would be a nice feature.

From personal experience, I'd recommend the FT8900. Not sure how deep the slot in your dash is, but it'd at least fit in the hole...

Quad band too.. 10M(FM) 6M 2M 70cm.

Had mine for 5 years now. Absolutely love it.

I've got the car on jack stands now (replacing transmission) but I will check the slot size.. The FT-8900R is 5.5x1.6x6.6 inches

And if all else fails I'm pretty sure that one has a remote head as well. I've got a 7800 and it works great.

FT8900R remote head is 5.5"W x 1.5"H x 1.75"D (including distance the knobs project) The remote head body itself is about 1" thick (D).

Wait a minute here....

Am I getting this right?
You want to DIN mount a transceiver?

I really must advise against this.

I would agree, unless the user does not transmit much. I am thinking heat will be a major killer on the radio. maybe even some RF issues but not so much.

I don't transmit much at all.. since I got my license 3 years ago I think I talked all but maybe 15 min on air.

most stuff I do is with APRS

Radios will generate heat in receive mode too... Putting them in an enclosed space like that is not advisable.

I don't think my 40 W got that hot when I last had it in the car.. but that was awhile ago..

I figure the fan would be enough.. I have very little other places to put it.

Well, then by all means... Nobody can tell you what to do with your own equipment.

I'm not aware of any simple way to NMO mount a transceiver.
