Please test this 100kbit (very low bandwidth) live audio and video feed on your smartphone or other mobile device that has a web browser.
Please only report in this thread the make & model of the phone/device and the brand of web browser (if you can) that the phone/device has, only if the live feed does not work on your device, you do not need to report in this thread that the live feed is working fine on your device.
If someone else has already reported that it does not work with the same make and model phone/device and/or same browser, please do not report it in this thread.
I am not fortunate to have enough different devices and mobile browsers to test the live feed on to be sure that it is working on different platforms since there are different variables that can be used across different devices & platforms.
Stream protocol: RTSP
Video specs: 320x240 @ 1FPS, 80kbit MPEG4
Audio specs: 8000Khz mono, one channel @ 40kbit AAC

Audio seemed fine, but Video was solid black screen (unless that is intentional ?). I let it run for a while and it stopped in the middle of one of the officers speaking with an error message (something along the lines of "cannot play this file").

Same behavior: good audio, black video and error after some time "Error: File cannot be displayed or played.".

On android 4.0(.4) I get audio but no video with the built in player, and nothing at all with MX Player.. That's weird because I have yet to find a video it can't play.
Phone is Galaxy Nexus, 1.2Ghz dual core, 1GB ram, connection was FIOS Wifi, but same thing with 4G.

hmmm.
seems like certain model smart phones work and some dont.
perhaps the video size has to be an absolute number, not 320x240, or some devices may not be able to scale the video ?
there are some settings i can change that might alleviate that though.
ill make some changes and see if that does the trick.

i changed the viewport settings video to "device width".
maybe that might help.
damn, the http server is caching the last page before i modified it.
no such thing as "ctrl+f5" on a smartphone.
edit:
actually, the viewport settings have no effect on this since this is external from the page itself.
the only settings would be the AVC encode profile settings. |

thanks for the help.
i think i have a few ideas what i can do to make this work on those two phones (also same thing on a blackberry, no video but audio).
i will message the both of you and ask if you can try it again when i have made additional settings to the encoder.

i changed some settings since i have access to a BlackBerry phone.
not sure if it will operate on the other devices listed in this thread but i do appreciate the help alot.

navigating to this page from your Iphone, can you click this link and see if it opens in the external player ?
it might have said that error during a time i was changing settings again (changed frame rate so it works on phones it previously didnt work, those phones would not play video with frame rates lower than 4 and FPS was previously set at 1, dont need fast FPS just to display grpahics that change every 1 second anyway)

interesting, it looks as though safari isnt parsing RTSP:// correctly (should open in external player).
its as if its treating RTSP as HTTP.

i think the iphone should be able to play the JW Player perhaps ?
if thats the case, then RTSP isnt needed for the iphone, but i dont have an iphone so i cant test that theory...
this would be the direct link to the JW player (whats embedded on the website, it should open in safari, direct link bypasses the mobile ID script redirect)

its quite complicated to make this work with very little problems and flaws since im using Livestream as the content provider (free version), it would not be cost effective for me to purchase the bandwidth (ive already priced out the cheapest available) for this application even though the bandwidth used during streaming is an average of only 100Kbit (thats bits, really little) for both audio & video.
