PS3 did it.

Had Amazon Instant Video on the PS3 a while now. Same deal with Netflix in that you don't need to be a PlaystationPlus to use it. Move along.

I think they're just banking on that most (if not all) XBox 360 owners are also Gold subscribers as well.

That being said, I've been tempted to just let mine lapse & use the PS3 for my streaming needs.

If Sony keep losing billions every quarter don't expect that to last much longer. MS proved you can get people to pay for something that should be free.

And if Sony / Microsoft jump ahead and kill rentable videos on their next-gen consoles, then I'll be happily stepping out of consoles altogether. It seems as though the video game industry is really intent on shooting itself in the foot repeatedly.
