If you are being fed VDSL, then no, an ADSL modem will not work. Also, you're in the wrong forum -- this is the FiOS FIBER forum.

If you have a fiber connection, then you have an ONT hanging on your house and the internet enters your house via MoCA (coax) or Ethernet. If it's coax, then you may need to call verizon to have it switched to ethernet (and, of course, run an ethernet cable), then you can use almost any router. (in that case, the x2000's blue "cable" WAN interface.)

No he isn't. In MDUs, Verizon sometimes uses VDSL to distribute internet service under the brand name of FiOS. Similar to how Uverse is distributed, but on a much more local scale.

FiOS in a MDU over VDSL is still "FiOS".
