Re: [STB] Cisco thinking of getting out of the set-top box busin

Hope they use multi-core arm processors. I'm tired of these underperforming sub 300 MHz set top boxes.

Sad when a modern smartphone has more computing power in the palm of your hand. Quadcore Cortex A15 MPCore at 2 GHz is around 20,000 DMIPS which would run circles around a Brodcom BCM7405 at 1100 DMIPS. And you wonder why the guide sucks and is so sloooowww.

looking at their product list they don't offer dvrs. I doubt many operators would want to buy into a company that doesn't offer dvrs but I could be wrong.

Yeah, Cisco really seems to be lagging behind. Here in Canada, in Rogers land, they've deployed Cisco 4642 and 8642 STBs with Cisco's own Videoscape firmware and it is all form no function. It looks gorgeous but it is exceptionally buggy and is severely lacking in features.
