Start: Will you be providing VOIP anytime soon? (Pembroke)
Hey folks; I'm a Cogeco "undesireable". I have a 14MB connection and their phone service in a bundle. I've looked around and I have no solid VOIP option that offers local numbers in Pembroke ON, except for Cogeco or a re-seller. Right now my only option would be to have 2 modems sitting around, one for Start and one for CG phone, and the cost of standalone service is crap, might as well have POTS. I'd like to switch to Start, but I notice there is no VOIP or telephone solution offered at this time. Is this in the works for Start? -- "There are no dangerous weapons, only dangerous men." - Sgt. I had the same as you the cogeco phone and cable internet 14. I purchased an Ooma and went with Starts Cable 16mb and I am saving 33.59 per month. The start-up cost of ooma will pay itself off in 6-8 months. I have had it for 5 months now. I love my ooma and Start!!!

Dave321 - Ooma does not have local numbers for Pembroke. The nature of my business/home life is that I need a local number, even a toll free would create problems for my situation. I don't understand why none of the VOIP companies has ANY local numbers for this area - nearly 50 000 people in our local calling region but nothing besides Cogeco and Bell resellers.
Rocca - thanks for the reply... I'll keep my eyes and ears peeled! If you need a guinea pig for Pembroke area I'm game! As The Tick would say, "Let the probing begin!" -- "There are no dangerous weapons, only dangerous men." - Sgt. Zim.

We've been doing limited beta trials for about 4-5 months with a couple hundred customers. It works well, but with the launch of cable we didn't want to have to deal with launching two new major products at the same time and the possible support cracks that may occur. As we continue with cable over the next couple of months and are settled in well with it we'll start to push our VOIP offering out publicly. I'm not sure off hand if we have #'s for Pembroke though.

Any update on timeline regarding a VOIP offering in general? I'd love to get rid of my rogers home phone
I know of a service provider that offers services for local numbers in Pembroke as well. You can use VOIP without having to set up two modems. Just one modem is enough and there is no need of maintaining a POTS line for this purpose. All you need is an internet connection and the communication media and you are good to go. This provider can also deliver VOIP services in your area. You can check out their services with »www.therealpbx.com
