Usage Counters (Cogeco)

The usage counters are now online for Cogeco areas.

Some questions I'm anticipating:

- The monthly estimation figure will be inaccurate for early in the month as today is the 3rd and there are no stats imported from the first two days. The estimator works by taking the total usage for the month so far and factoring it by the percentage of the month remaining.

- We do not keep any tracking information about where customers have visited. The netflow accounting that we are using only aggregates the usage for the destination address (ie the customer ip) and not the remote party. Flow data is parsed every few minutes and discarded after the byte counts are added to the statistics.

- We are currently not adding any upload traffic to the usage counters.

- Overages on non-unlimited packages are 50 cents per GB, with no maximum. With the current rates we pay for Cogeco we cannot put a cap on it unfortunately. With the exception of people running torrents all day it's unlikely most customers will reach the higher caps. We are still cautiously optimistic that the R&V will result in more appropriate rates for transport than the current $26,950/Gbps.

...if there are any other questions please let me know.
