Re: Official Guild Wars 2 Thread

Man, all this work and quality and no subscription model. Unbelievable. I think I'll buy some gems this weekend to support the cause.

"We also have plans to add more fun ways to acquire Legendary precursor items with a more “scavenger hunt” feel than they are acquired currently."

Wow. This pretty much took care of me as I've no desire to grind away at dungeons or anything for that matter for rewards. Been there, done that and don't miss it. In fact, I've yet to enter a dungeon (beyond Mad King) in this game and don't feel like I have to. Does anyone else feel like that?

For whatever reason, I found myself reading some of the threads in a WoW forum earlier. I can truly say I do not miss the game. It had great points and it had awful ones as well. For me the awful drove me away and for the most part still exist today. Some folks are obviously better able to deal with it than I was willing or able to. But, here is the kicker. Those issues do not exist in GW2 for me. Early I had my concerns, but the gold spammers, bots, and general idiots (pardon the term) are not around long if at all. Think about it. Somebody really did their homework.

It seems bots and gold sellers are booted very quickly.

Anet is motivated to boot them because they lose nothing by removing them. Because there is no subscription.

I have not seen a bot in a full week. And I have not seen gold sellers in about 2 weeks.

WoW's open world was pointless end game. GW2 world is still awesome at end game.

Also, I am level 80, full exotic without getting anything from dungeons. And my warr is a beast. I do however, want to explore dungeons more.

how are you guys getting to 80 so fast Oo I been playing for 3 weeks now for 4 hours a night M-F and am only up to 45 on my necromancer Oo

either you are levling multiple toons

OR

you are fully completing zones below your level

...

If you are leveling from 10-15, in zone level 10-15 it will take you X hours

If you are leveling from 20-25, in zone level 20-25 it will take you X hours

If you are leveling from 20-25, in zone level 10-15, it will take you X+Y hours

as long as your zone matches your toons level, leveling will always take the same amount of time per level

I just hit 80 last night on my engineer. I got the last three levels in five minutes from working on my cooking skill. It's faster, but it's expensive. I'm about broke now, but my cooking is at 380.

Grats on 80 man! I did the same thing with my engineer, the last two levels were all crafting. I'm working on a guardian now and haven't touched crafting; the leveling is noticably slower.

Thanks. I wanted to level out before all the new stuff hits this weekend so I made an effort to finish it this week. I still need to finish up the personal missions and start working on gear (I honestly have no idea where to find level 80 gear) but I'm good to go on the invasion.

I've been saving up my karma jars from daily achievements. I plan to pop a karma booster and drink 41 of them when one (if any) of my guys hit 80, then I can get an entire set of karma armor for no gold!

Is tomorrow the big patch?

Edit: I've read suggestion of buying level 79 gear, which are close to 80 in terms of stats but much cheaper, if you are just starting out.

The new event starts tomorrow, but I'm not sure if they will patch then or today. I had a small one yesterday.

I'm trying to level my crafting as I progress my toons. I've got a leatherworker maxed and am very close with a jeweler. After that I plan to work on a Huntsman (I think it is called). Hollar at me when you get to 80 and I'll be happy to craft what I can for you.

This may be horrible advice, but I bought a set of yellow mf gear for cheap off the auction house at 80 and updated it over time. The increase in blues, greens and yellows mean more gold in your pocket to put toward buying better mf gear, etc. etc. until you can afford to either craft or buy the exotics you actually want. It's not fast but it does work. Of course you can also farm dungeons for the dungeon gear. I also completed maps over level 60, 2 guaranteed exotics for each one.

my warr exotic set is a combination of Melandru's (karma), and from the TP

I then applied the Runes I really wanted to them

I'm not investing in an exotic MF set until I get my 2nd toon (guardian) to 80, in full exotics himself

I plan on perpetually leveling alts... only doing so while dailies are available each day. Nothing like a free XP boost to level alts.

Gold at 80 is easier to come by

I got the dates screwed up. Internets says 11/16/12 at noon PST this thing kicks off. I suspect the patch that morning or previous evening.

Events:

November 15, 9:00 PST (17:00 GMT) Free trial period begins

November 16, 12:00 PST (20:00 GMT) Defend Lion's Arch - defend the city against the karka

November 17, 12:00 PST (20:00 GMT) Retake Lion's Arch - drive out the karka. Discover a brand new map - Southsun Cove, a new island located in the Sea of Sorrows

November 18, 12:00 PST (20:00 GMT) An epic multi-hour one-time event - Battle the Ancient Karka in Southsun Cove

To summarize, it looks like:

Invasion comes to LA. We get ass kicked and fall back. We regroup to retake LA and then take the fight to them.

We've all seen this scenario before. It will be fun to take part in the story for once.

A couple of weeks ago I was able to play the game from a zoomed out perspective. This is nothing I did on my part. It just showed up. However, now it appears to be gone and I can't find any settings to get it back. Anyone have any insight?

I've had a tough time in the Straits of Devastation. The Risen are everywhere and they swarm you when you start a fight. Also, they respawn so quickly that by the time you clear a group of them the first one you killed is already back. There are three skill challenges there that I simply can't get to because there are so many mobs around.

You sure you didn't change anything....they've been working on this:

»forum-en.guildwars2.com/forum/in···eta-Test

I use it, and it's definitely better with it enabled, imo, but you have to manually turn it on, afaik, so not sure how yours would have been switched on and then off without interaction.

Yeah dude the Straits are tough when you first get to 80. Try and pull one or two mobs at a time and work very deliberately. There is one skill point guarded by a ton of mobs I was having trouble with until I realized that is an end of an escort event and a champion spawns there.

I honestly found the Straits to be the most difficult of the Orr maps. I don't know if that's just because I was a new 80 and had crap gear or what. I was glad when I completed that bad boy.

question about weekend codes:

can you use/add them on an existing beta account so i can continue leveling my old lvl.14 character?

or must it only be used on a new account and start from level 1.

does anyone know specifically about this issue?

i know the registration page where you put the code in asks if you have a GW2 account already or not,
but i was afraid if i said yes(i have an old account) it would nullify my weekend code. Because i worry
that yes is meant for people who had temp accounts and now want to apply paid retail box codes.

*Pets Vinceruos, gives him a biscuit, sends him back to WOW*

Edit: I'm actually excited about the big patch coming today. Hope they fix/balance a lot of the classes.

Bionic, I think/fear they might nerf spamming grenades a bit, since from what I read that's the only viable options at higher level. Hope they buff other kits instead, but I'm doubtful.

Man I hope not. I don't use them on land but they are the tits underwater. As far as being the only viable option at higher leve, I don't know about that. For fast AOE, like in karma farming events, I use flamethrower a lot combined with radiation field and it's great. You can kill a lot of schtuff very quickly.

Since my engineer is lowbie I'm just going off the fears in the forums. I hope you are right. I personally like the flamethrower more, so *fiery*

I'll have to try the radiation field bit for leveling, didn't think about that.

^This. I've spec'd and geared toward the flamethrower and use it more than anything now on dry land, no matter the number of mobs. I'll have to try the radiation field. Grenades rule underwater. I hope they are not nerfed.

I don't see any patch notes posted yet, so you are not missing anything. For some reason I can access the official forums. I suspect one or more of the IT guys plays this game and wants to read it, so made an exception in Websense for it haha.

If there are patch notes/leaks elsewhere, I don't know about it yet.

Yep ppl are still playing though I read alot of ppl have all ready gotten to 80 and done all the content so I dont know what these ppl do now as there is no gear tread mill at this point and no real "raids" for future content like wow.

This was implemented towards the end of Oct, so this isn't breaking news or anything.

Text from the link I gave above:

FOV (Field of View) Changes Beta Test

Were ready to beta test a change to our FOV (Field of View) that should provide a better experience for those with widescreen monitors. We want your feedback about the change to help us decide whether to deploy it to all players.
To help test, youll need to add a special command line to your GW2 clients shortcut. Heres how:
1) Create a shortcut to your GW2 client (right-click -> Create Shortcut)
2) Right-click the GW2 client shortcut
3) Click Properties
4) Locate text field labeled Target.
It should contain the file path of your shortcut, and will look something like this:C:\Games\Gw2\Gw2.exe
5) Type -testVerticalFov at the end of the Target line
Be sure to include a space between .exe and -test.
The line should look like this: C:\Games\Gw2\Gw2.exe -testVerticalFov
Please note that your Target line may or may not have quotation marks. If it does have quotation marks, this tag should go outside of them. So it will look like this:
C:\Games\Gw2\Gw2.exe -testVerticalFov
6) Once the command line has been added, click Apply -> OK.
7) Thats it! Jump in and play with this new setting, and post your feedback in the following thread: »forum-en.guildwars2.com/forum/su···st551648
If at any time you want to return to the old FOV, simply remove the –testVerticalFov from your target line and itll return to normal.
