Might just be Beta and I'm in the starter zone but this lagg is killer. Game feels floaty and skills are not as responsive as WoW or Tera. |

can you pick a low pop server to see if lag is less an issue? |

It's a "Beta Weekend Event" or BWE...if you pre-purchase, you get access, but there hasn't been a release date announced yet. |

First Impressions thus far:
Impressed.
- Plays very similar to WoW, WASD for movement, QE to strafe, left mouse hold for camera change, or movement with LMB+RMB and the camera follows you. Middle mouse wheel to zoom in and out, in chunks, not gradually like in WoW.
THE PLAY CONTROL IS MUCH IMPROVED FROM GW1 in my opinion
Play control is still a "little" clunky, but not that bad. turning while moving, and turning while jumping, and camera turning could be smoothed out a bit more.
- The weapon skills are pretty awesome, change weapon, change skills, that you have to earn.
Considering that I'm freakin exhausted from working all week, so far it's a lot of fun. Big improvement over GW1. Open world is very pretty for humans.
I WILL NEED A NEW COMPUTER.
This game definitely requires more horse power than WoW to play on high settings. Time to bite the bullet and buy a new machine to play GW2 and Tera in their full glory.
- Random events are pretty cool, self heals are pretty cool. It's a lot to take in at once, and the UI is very very different from Runes of Magic or World of WArcraft, so it will take some time to get used to it.
Overall the game has lots of potential thus far |

Some lag spikes here and there, but I didn't notice floating walking like I AM reported, not sure
movement animations are smoother than I watched in videos, some GW2 videos the toon animations are slow or wierd, didnt notice it thus far in the beta
ADDITIONALLY, it is a true open world... NO invisible walls, NO invisible edges that you can't jump over... if you want to jump off a cliff go for it, and you will probaly die... want to run up a hill to the edge go for it... a lot of so called open mmos have invisible walls, have come across none so far in GW2, very nice |

Some key play control issues that I always look for in a new mmo:
- Being able to hold W to run forward, then holding down the left mouse button and see if I can look in all direction while I run forward... GW2 has it CHECK... can run in one direction and look behind me to see whose chasing!
- Being able to jump and rotate 360 while in the air. GW has it CHECK... not as smooth as WoW, but still decent! |

Impressions as of level 8 Thief:
- Like Beef said plays similar to WoW. Combat is not as smooth or responsive as WoW imo but a lot more engaging than WoW. Combat is not as true action as TERA either. It is a tab target game but attacks hit all things infront of it. - You can't stand there and trade blows with a mob like you do in WoW you will die...a lot. - I agree tht combat does feel clunky at times, it is not turning and jumping like how I would like to at times esp. when kiting and turning a lot. - Questing system is ok. Instead of kill 5 of this, gather 5 of this they group it up to a into a progression bar and when you do enough of whatever the quest is complete. - Dynamic events or just events are ok. It's neat that you can jump into for example a escort quest even though someone else started it or visa versa.
I came into the game with lower expectations than most because I played GW1 and I knew it was a different kind of game than most WoW clones. But I was impressed so far by what I have played. I liked the questing and over lvling more than Tera but Tera's combat is still better. Best part of this impression is just being able to say I will or will not sub after it releases therefore GW2 will get a lot more play. |

This looks like a must-buy for me! It also takes time to kill 1 mob. Mobs are not 2-3 shots. Combat is engaging because you are constantly moving, dodging, attacking, or stunning. |

Combat is somewhere between Tera and WoW. It is tab targetting, but you can roll around and shit to dodge attacks. Very nice.
Like said above, even at low levels, if you try to go toe to toe, blow for blow with mobs you will die! this is excellent! take on more than 2 mobs your same level you will die.
Joining group EVENTS in the open world is EXCELLENT! all of a sudden about 15 of us were fighting a giant boar, and it was one shotting me all the time, and my team kept rezzing me, excellent.
definitely a next GEN MMO, needs some tweaking but its excellent
MMO FIRST:
Was standing near a farm, kind of going AFK... checkiNG out skills or whatever... SOME RANDOM NPC RUNS UP TO ME FROM THE FARM AND SAYS: " we are under attack by ... ... and need you to help us out!"
the npc ran up to me, instead of me running up to him, asking for my help... very engaging!
THE MEAT AND POTATOES of this game is the random open world RAID events that anyone can join into... F-IN EXCELLENT
very engaging... after gw2 and tera I dont think mmos will ever be the same... other mmos will feel cold after this |

Are the dynamic events similar to Rift? That got old pretty fast. |

The similarities are that you're auto-joined to whatever even is happening, but you're not necessarily in a "party" , you're just all working toward a similar goal of moving a status bar towards completion, and your xp is judged on your participation, like Rift.
The events are also more engaging than Rifts, in that there really wasn't too much of a reason for all of those rifts to come, just that they were invading...in GW2, it's usually tied to the story in same fashion....Harpies coming from their nest's, local tar elementals over running their normal habitat, it goes along with the areas, not just random spawns of whatever.
Scaling does occur as well, so if its just you, then you're facing 2-5 baddies, where as more ppls show up, the scale increases exponentially. |

Just finished up my BWE. All I can say is WHOA!! fun game! I can't wait for the game to go live. I played a few professions but got the necromancer the highest (23). Tons of fun with my friends. We were blown away at both the fun and the beauty of the game world. It's like you are jumping into a painting and having it come to life. |

Holy shit!!! The final event was badass!!
You could play the good guys, or when you died, choose a corrupted waypoint, and come back as the corrupted! I played corrupted most of the time...there was some drake flying overhead...shit was insane.
The corrupted looked like we outnumbered the good guys, and were pounding on Rytlock Brimstone, whom we were supposed to corrupt or something, but as soon as 3am hit....BAM..servers down! So fucked up....god it was fun.
I've taken a ton of high-res screenies...I'll prolly post in another thread so as not to bog this one down, but damn good time.
Sad its over....god I hope they release this game soon! |

Meant to post these in my other thread, but they take forever to upload, so I'll leave them here. If they're too painful, I'll delete..just let me know. (Look at them at full size to really get the full effect...really damn impressive) |

Thanks! I'd like to see them, and definitely wanna hear about WvW...I haven't got a chance to mess with it. Posted some more here: » Screens from GW2 BWE (VERY large images, be warned)I kinda felt like I shoulda done more with the weekend, but I wanted the Necro to work, and I wasn't figuring it out, so I kept playing it until I got a handle on it. I do think some mechanics on it are not working (skills that bring life back, or place debuffs on targets), but man it is tough going for the first 10 levels or so....really tough. Things got a little better once I figured out the axe / dagger combo for my weapons, with staff as secondary....but still died quite a bit. I think Necro still needs a bit of work and some tuning, and with a few of the bugs that I saw over the weekend, I'm thinking that more than likely, the game will be coming out around Christmas, unless they have a helluva patch in the works already, which is entirely possible. |
