open vpn

i am looking to setup open vpn @ home, i use a dyndns updater, i plan in running the server in vmware workstation 8 i have a 30/3 internet connection and i have a all in one gateway for the dvr so i can open port 1723 for pptp...

what are the pros and cons of open vpn, is it jut one vm i need to run or are there 2 vm's i need to run. I dug out some licenses i had when i ran a smoothwall so i have 1o them there. from what i remeber it is fairly easy to run and simple what is required to run is as a virtual server....thanks in advance

it's the same as a physical box... smoothwall would be a good choice. I have used it previously both as a vm, and a separate PC.

i went to a whole house dvr and have to use their router so my firewall is gone and my vpn options.. so i was going to do a open vpn virtual and just port fwd the ports to the open vpn server.. I am trying to figure out they whos and whats of the virtual aspect.
