 | [help] Good signal very slow speeds Signal | OOL Speed Test | | OOL FTP Speed Test | |
I'm getting very slow speeds in 07869, I've done all the usual trouble-shooting steps. Help!
Model Name: SBV5222 Firmware Version: 22.0.16-SCM-14 Vendor Name: Motorola MTA Firmware name: SBV5222-22.0.16-SCM-14-SHPC Boot Version: 8.4.5 Hardware Version: 1 |

 | Slow speeds when direct to the modem = contact CV. They'll likely check everything with the signal at your home & swap the modem for a Docsis 3 model. |

2 edits | reply to prefont Hey!! Me too!! Also in 07869, same modem.
If I do a speed test at 6-7 am I get decent speeds (18-20 Mbps). Other times, all evening and most of the weekend I get what you are seeing where the download is lower than the upload and usually on the order of 1-2 Mbps.
I called Cablevision last night, around 6 pm and, of course they wanted me to do a direct connect to the PC, even though I see good speeds with the router in the early am. So I did it..but when I power cycled the modem it would NOT synch up. In fact, it hadn't synched by the time I went to bed at around 11 pm!!! Luckily things were back to 'normal' this morning. Not sure when it finally synched. Should check my logs...
18 Mbps down at ~7 am which degraded to 11 Mbps by 8:15 am!!!!
The tech on the phone said the signals looked good while the modem was up, and there didn't seem to be any evidence of node saturation.
She didn't like the time it was taking to synch (never did while on the phone) and suggested I swap out the modem. While I wouldn't mind getting a better modem, I am not convinced it is the issue.
Does yours synch back up quickly after power cycle?
I was tempted to power cycle the modem at 6 am to see if it immediately synched vs. the hours of trying the night before. |

I've always seen Cablevision modems have it about -2 to +3 dBmV This is not always the case. The recommended levels are between -10 and 10. I've had a modem around -10 - -13 for months without issues (not on D3).
If anything, the OP could add a -3 or -6dB pad, but I doubt it'll make a difference. 0.002% of the codewords received by the modem were unrecoverable; that's a decent error rate. My bet is on congestion. -- University of Southern California - Fight On! |

 | reply to Recluse I'm in the Morris County system and am not seeing any issues with slowdowns. Then again I've had a DOCSIS 3 modem since September. A Cisco DPQ3212 and Arris TM822 both having 5 downstream channels bonded and both sync up within a minute from plugging them in/resetting them. |

| I wonder what kind of modems they have in my local drop-in center. The fact that the original poster and I have almost identical issues with the same modem either means that they changed something so that our modems can no longer support the connections, or there is something systemic (congestion as I originally thought) in our area that is independent of our modems and would cause problems no matter what. I would really like to test the power cycle/synch of my modem during the early morning off peak hours, but I can't afford to leave my wife without internet and phone service all day if it takes another 6-8 hours to finally synch. |

 | You need to have a tech come out and look. |

BTW, here is my signal page right after a speed test showing 2 Mbps down and the same up. |

Two Techs have come out in the past 2 weeks, we had no signal at all. After a lighting storm hit a pole, it blew out several junctions on the street. The last Tech came out on Saturday. He replaced the filter inside the utility pedestal, tested the line up to the house(underground). Tested the line inside the house and gave an all clear. The modem seems to sync quickly but sometimes I have to power cycle twice. Does the walk-in on Rt-10 allow modem swaps to the newer Docsis 3 versions? |

| I guess I should call again. In the first call, the inability of the modem to synch made them pretty much say "Swap the Modem" so I guess I might have to do that and repeat the issue before they will roll a truck. I never did get to try a speed test with a direct connection to the PC, because it was more important to restore connectivity to all the various devices around the house by the morning, so I reconnected to the router.
Not sure what they have at the Rt 10 store these days. A tech replaced an old Surfboard (4100?) with the SBV5222 when I added Optimum Voice a few years ago. |

Does the walk-in on Rt-10 allow modem swaps to the newer Docsis 3 versions? The two ways to guarantee a DOCSIS 3 modem would be to either go through the service call process. If the tech determines that the D3 modem is warranted, you'll get one...Or...subscribe to Boost+.
If you go into the walk-in-center for a modem swap, you get what you get. If you are a standard OOL customer, there's a good chance you get a DOCSIS 2 modem |

 | Me too!! 2nd Tech visit, but this guy was prepared with an Arris TM822 and did a signals check all over just to make sure there wasn't anything else going on.
Speeds are great now at times when they used to degrade. |
