Not sure if this one is one of the listed 'updates' but this one just pushed through: »support.microsoft.com/kb/949104

Yep, same platform. I thought Win 7x64 was not affected in the latest conversation. Seems it might be a little more still to come with the Windows Update and certification.

The biggest change:

Improvements made to version 7.6.7600.256 of the Windows Update Agent.

Hardened Windows Update infrastructure so that the Windows Update client will only trust files signed by a new certificate that is used solely to protect updates to the Windows Update client.
Strengthened the communication channel used by Windows Update Client to protect it in a similar way.

We maybe jumping in a little on dp See Profile's initial subject of this topic, but in relation to the Windows update, there is more about the release at TechNet.

quote:
Today, as a part of our continuing phased mitigation strategy recently discussed, we have initiated the additional hardening of Windows Update. We’ve also provided more information about the MD5 hash-collision attacks used by the Flame malware in the SRD blog. This information should help answer questions from customers about the nature of these collision attacks. We continue to encourage all customers who are not installing updates automatically to do so immediately.

same here. I checked both the Microsoft Update and Windows Update pages a few days ago and Windows Update Agent 7.6.7600.256 never showed up for me on my WinXP/Vista/Seven computers. It looks like Microsoft has stopped offering the new Windows Update Agent lately to some people.

anyways, I don't seem to need it right now as PA Bear MS MVP was saying here:
»answers.microsoft.com/en-us/wind···1661e2a7

WU Agent v7.6.7600.256 is being rolled-out over time to avoid overwhelming the update servers. Until it's offered to your computer, 7.4.7600.226 is perfectly safe assuming KB2718704 & all other updates are installed and your anti-virus application is installed & working properly.

I went to the link in the answer and clicked to check and got the pop-up to install the update manually, so I did. It seems to have gone fine. I had just done a fixit (SSIRP 12013: Shim Workaround). Now I wonder whether I need to undo that. I've forgotten, so I guess I'll have to do a search to see whether this is related. No, that was for the XML core services, so I guess I will leave that in place. I just saw a special on PBS on multi-tasking (and I was multi-tasking by trying to listen to it while checking on line). The special indicated that people who do a lot of multi-tasking don't really do it well, but I kind of knew that already, intuitively. Focus, like a Ford.
