Re: Alternative to MacBook Air? Why not just buy a MacBook Air and format it for Windows? You don't have to run OS X.
Aside from colour, most other ultrabooks will be similar aluminum colour as MBA and same price tag. I think it was the Asus I looked at, nice looking machine, for $999, just a little more than the MacBook Air.

I pulled the trigger today and picked up the HP Envy 4 1043-CL from CostCo for $730. I got it about 2 hours ago. So far I really like it. It supports the two finger scrolling which my older laptop never did. USB 3, 3rd gen Core i5 chip with 6gb of RAM.
