Re: [HD] VHO-5 WLNY TV (10/55 HD) Slightly off-topic I was informed that WLIW (21) is going to FINALLY go HD within the year. I emailed the station saying that they're horribly outdated by not having an HD version and no matter what programming they have on, there's no way I'm going to watch it in SD.
They wrote me back a nice email saying it's coming in the summer of 2013. They're owned by WNET (13) these days, and a lot of good stuff gets shuffled off of the main channel (13) to the "secondary" channel (21) these days -- especially Austin City Limits (one of my favorite programs on TV!) which we have not been able to see in HD here in the NYC area for at least 3 seasons.  |

We don't even have WLNY TV 55 in HD yet and alot cable systems do while Verizon sits on sidelines and waits. |

I know it's very foolish, but Cablevision does the same thing with that channel, so it's not just Verizon. |

Right, which makes no sense considering CBS is already sending them the HD feed (assuming that's true based on earlier post). At this point how long could it possibly take to set up and activate the channel? |

WLIW's OTA digital feed is 4 SD channels.
Ch 470 is 21.1 WLIW.
Not sure why FiOS places it like a sub channel. |

I only get 3 OTA channels:
21.1 = WLIW SD
21.2 = Create
21.3 = World
I don't recall there ever being a 4th. |

While I am quite cynical about FIOS channel adds as well, there are "must carry" laws that the cable companies have to comply with for local channels. |

But does "must carry" apply to HD? I assume carrying the SD feed satisfies the "must carry" requirement. |

true but cable companies can downconvert hd feeds if they have bandwith constraints. for example time warner downconverts must carry njtv here in nyc. they carry njtv in sd only even though he channel broadcasts in hd. |

Nets are a YES network property, not MSG. |

They were added months ago. Channels 578 through 581. |
