I've been experiencing what seem to be regular ping spikes with my connection. They aren't particularly bad, and I certainly don't have any problems with downloads or browsing the web. However I think it might be having an effect on my online gaming.
If I just open up terminal on my Mac and let it ping away at any old address, I usually get good pings for many attempts, followed by a few attempts that are quite a bit higher (some even above 100 ms).
You can get an idea what I mean by looking at my two line tests:
Both tests were done with the DNS server set to Google's (220.127.116.11 and 18.104.22.168). No idea if that matters.
The older test was done over my wireless connection (SB6121 to WRT54G running Tomato 1.28). The more recent test was performed with my computer connected directly to the modem. The modem had a completely different IP address for the direct-to-modem test (and it reverted back to the original IP after switching back to wireless). I unplugged the modem whenever I switched between the router and direct-to-modem methods.
I'm on Comcast 20/4. No problems with my download or upload. I've attached my signal levels and my modem log (does everything look there, by the way?). Anything I can do to fix or begin troubleshooting this problem?
