Cuban Olympic boxer Teofilo Stevenson passes away
He was a great boxer, remember his Olympic matches quite well.
~~Get our troops home...now!!~~
I remember him too. Great big guy. Great amateur, but I always had the feeling he'd have gotten his butt kicked pretty regularly had he turned pro and fought the name pro fighters of the day. But we'll never know.
Revered by his countrymen, though. May he RIP. Sixty is still young to be dying.
Remember him well too! I might have to disagree about him getting his butt kicked by the pros in the day. He was pretty damn good.

A great amateur boxer but a poster boy for a despicable regime. I remember going to Havana on cargo ships as Captain. The armed guards used to roam my vessel confiscating radios, TVs, jeans, underwears etc. They used to insist we attend their parades and speeches by Castro and other tyrants. Nice people but a cruel regime.
He was their greatest athlete and led a rich life in Cuba, not like the ordinary people. That's why he stayed.
My opinions may have changed, but not the fact that I am right."
