Utopia FTTH

Small correction to above article, currently 100Mbps is max symmetrical residential speed I have signed up for over Utopia FTTH w/XMission...

Supposedly the 1Gbps 'Google-Fiber' type speed is avail now if your pockets are deep enough to afford the $300/month for it. My pockets being on the light side, I will be sticking with the 100/100 plan for now at $45/month!

Keep in mind the 1TB is a 'soft' cap that I haven't been called on yet and no way could they hope to enforce a 1TB cap for 1Gbps service!

Wish I could get this service in my area! Stupid lawmakers taking bribes from Qwest and Comcast cost a lot of people the ability to have great service for a very reasonable price!

lol wow, I couldn't even find a use for that much bandwidth unless I really tried.

I download movies & TV shows. I stream HD video via Netflix & YouTube daily. I listen to Pandora all the time. I still couldn't even come close to 1 TB if I tried.

Granted, I only have a 10Mbps connection...I might find more creative things to do if I had something huge like you

Well, if they were pricks about it I would just move to another one of the ISPs with Utopia like Veracity since there is no contract with this FTTH service!

Well yeah, in theory it COULD. I'm just saying I don't know how I'd go about doing that.

As is I use my internet a ton, and download loads of high def movies, and average 150-200GB/month.

Yeah, what a bunch of freaks. It's crazy to think that people would want a better product than they already have.

No, it's crazy that every time we see one of these stories someone posts the same two or three exact comments. It's like those dorks who live to post "FIRST !" every time some game developer makes a post.

That is pretty much the entire point of the story.

Your surprised people want 1 Gbit/s on an internet tech site?

Trillions in the middle east?
We've wasted a bundle over there, but it ain't a trillion.
Citation, please.

I'd gladly support reasonable funding for legal "community broadband" efforts if you could convince Dear Leader to stop spending more than we take in annually.

»www.fas.org/sgp/crs/nats ··· 3110.pdf seems to offer a reasonable summary of expenses incurred since 9/11... this and most sources corroborate the widely-accepted fact that we spend HUNDREDS of billions of dollars on our efforts in the Middle East every year, and the Iraq and Afghanistan wars have together formed the longest period of military intervention in US history, far outdoing what we did in Vietnam. Also, this is not to mention the domestic R&D funding that goes into our operations in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere throughout the world (i.e. DoD projects, DARPA R&D funds, the CIA's covert operations which barely have any congressional oversight (sometimes they actually draw out of the CIA's discretionary budget and therefore are off the record even for congressional staff, let along mere mortals like you and me...) Throw in the drastic increase in funding for the NSA's domestic wiretapping and realtime data analysis programs, and yes, you do in fact have expenses going FAR past the trillion-dollar mark, all aimed directly or indirectly at supporting the wars we are currently fighting (or at least protecting the country from the potential backlash due to out presence in places like Iraq and Afghanistan...)

Sheesh, man!

Anyone that can afford this and is willing to pay it, is flat out a pickle and has no sense, or life, what so ever, IMO!

»en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fi ··· Iraq_War

Estimated cost of middle east intervention since 9/11 is about 4 TRILLION dollars.

DOD's estimate of just IRAQ's direct costs at about 800 Billion and counting. Brown's estimate is over a trillion.

Your Welcome.

Nice try.

Afghanistan and Pakistan aren't part of the Middle-East, and your source isn't exactly credible.

But I'll concede that there is certainly room to argue that the figure could be substantially higher than a trillion, depending on how you choose to do the math - and either way, its a ridiculous appropriation, given the cost:benefit analysis.

We should have had an official "war tax", paid by everyone, since 9/11, which would have tempered some of the enthusiasm for intervention.

And whats wrong with wanting a cheap service like this with great speeds? Also like I said the ONLY reason it isn't every where is because of the bribes our state people took to look the other way

Nothing wrong with wanting it but every time there is a story about fiber there are always posts by people who think they are original and funny.

The posts about how fast you can run through your cap and the post about how you wish X company would come to their home. Neither is funny or whitty anymore. Maybe we should find these people a dead horse to beat.

I disagree.

The absurdity of many of these caps needs to be elaborated on at every chance.

If a company is going to advertise extreme "bandwidth" then they should deliver that product in good faith. Not some gotcha.

Yea, to a bunch of people who already know that caps suck. If you keep bitching on these forums about caps it's going to do absolutely squat...

We have new guests reading these forums everyday. I think you are not aware of the volume this site does.

Which interestingly enough is why it is full of telco shills.
