This whole half-assed locked bootloader just makes me want to tell Verizon to go fuck themselves. |

Ok, so it's been a few days now with the phone, and I have more of a feel of the phone itself.
The result is.....I like it.
The screen is just beautiful. Response is super quick for anything I do, with the one exception of the "Home" button...it seems to take a second from the actual key press to get back to the desktop. Another click is required to get to the true home screen if you were on a side desktop, but this is a quick transition. Just going out of an app to the desktop seems to be the only delay.
The camera is amazing. Really great shots (but of course, more light = better pics, inside or low light still get grainy relatively easily), and I was pleasantly surprised to find the "Burst" photo option, with sub options for keeping all of the snapped shots, or a "Best shot" mode that will display 8 shots it takes from 1 key press, and then let you choose out of the 8 which you want to keep or trash. With other options like the panoramic (multiple shots sewn together for about 180 degree shot), HDR, not to mention video with anti-shake and simple video effects really make the photo options on this phone pretty sweet, imo.
Battery Life - Awesome. This one was a big issue for me, and coming from the EVO 4G, if you had one, you know that you pretty much had to have a charger at any place you spent more than a few hours. The battery life has just been outstanding on the Galaxy. With moderate to heavy use, I'm able to get more than 10-12 hours out of a charge, and with light browsing / phone calls, well into a 3rd day without having to charge...light years better than the EVO, very happy in this dept. , though YMMV if your phones have had decent battery life already.
Audio quality is good from the earpiece as well as over speakerphone, though it's not going to win any awards for quality if you wanted to listen to music that way. Speakerphone is a touch sensitive to environmental noise, so you get that clipping effect when it thinks you're trying to talk, so cuts out the person on the other end, but I haven't seen this work well on any phone.
GPS response (thru Waze and other GPS apps) is quick to come up with no issues I've run into.
Anyway, I guess that is about it...if you have any questions, I'll do my best to answer, but like I said...overall, I'm very happy with it, and though I was biased towards HTC, I'm glad I made the choice and will be sticking with it. (Down side to this is, the wife now has phone-envy and will be requiring hers to be upgraded asap)
--edit-- Forgot to mention Chrome on the device is also pretty sweet...the multiple tabs is nice, and the index card view of open tabs is pretty slick (slide your finger up and down to get a collapsed or exposed view of each page open)
Also, another gripe I do have is the stock keyboard...it does have the "swype" method, which I prefer, but it leaves something to be desired in its prediction, as well as error correction. I'll install swype or something else soon, as I don't like the stock one at all. |

Interesting so an update shortly after launch is suppose to enable world training, i.e. gsm. According to pictures and specs in the manual doesn't show a secondary Sim or state a gsm band.
Mine is supposed to arrive Wednesday according to email I got today. |

The ROM I saw available was stock but had a bunch of stuff removed. It uses the stock kernel. There will be no CM9, AOSP or AOKP ROMs till the bootloader is cracked because for those to work you must have a custom kernel. ROMs based on stock can get by with the stock kernel but even then it's better to use a custom kernel if you want to overclock and whatnot.
For the vast majority of people, they don't care or have any idea what a custom ROM even is. For a majority of people who actually root they don't even care about a locked bootloader either as most people who root do so just to be able to use wifi tethering for free, and other apps that require root. Very few people actually get into custom ROMs.
For me, I'd much prefer to have an AOSP based ROM. Liquid is an awesome dev and has mentioned that he will be working on a ROM for the GS3. I've used his ROMs on several devices so I will use his ROM for the GS3 once it is available. Until then, I'm happy with being able to remove a bunch of crap, use a replacement launcher, and replace some of the TouchWized apps with stock Android apps. |

Wouldn't it be great if someone created a phone and we could select what we want on it? Like buying a car, you want 3.73's, done, 19" rims, done. I'd love a vanilla phone that I can do what I want with. |

I mean, this is the first time Samsung is encrypting a bootloader, right? Maybe their inexperience means it is cracked, but honestly I'm not holding my breath. |

Verizon's twitter account says they didn't lock but Samsung did. Which makes no sense so it appears it's finger pointing time. |

I think they worded it VERY carefully to say that Samsung requested the lock. That is quite possible. It is, however, VERIZON that requested the bootloader be ENCRYPTED. |

If you're an SGS3 owner or a would-be owner if the bootloader weren't locked down and encrypted, considering donating to this bounty thread: » forum.xda-developers.com ··· =1760568Hopefully if enough money is thrown at the problem, we can get a brilliant dev(s) to unlock this and give VZW the finger. |

The encrypted part is key. I think this is out there enough either someone will fix or it'll get fixed by Samsung. Verizon will get grief for being the only carrier in the world to do this. |

I read on XDA that there is supposed to be a system update rolling out but no word yet on what it does. If anything you will likely lose root (if you have it). How large is the update? |

The Sprint update removes the full search capabilities. Search will now only search the internet and not your device. I imagine the Verizon update that is rumored will be the same. I read (I think on Phandroid) that the Sprint update also includes a few bug fixes. |

Apple has a patent on how to patent seemingly common sense unpatentable ideas.
They also have one on how to completely avoid innovation, use last year's technology, but still make millions through the use of patent litigation and excessive brainwashing of the masses. |

Just got my GS3 and opened the box. Holy shit the phone is gigantic. I thought my TBolt was huge when I switched to it from the OG Droid. And super thin. It's about half the thickness of the TBolt. I'm going to love the ginormous screen. I've never seen a Note but I'm thinking that would be too big. This GS3 is about pushing the limits of being too big. But I'm sure after using it for a while I'll want something bigger. Couple years we'll all be carrying around 15in tablets as cell phones at this rate. |
