Download speed is only 150kbps with 1.5Mbps connection?

Hi there,
I have my 1.5Mbps connection for a couple of years now and my download speed only maxes out at around 150kbps. Is this normal or what? It is definitely not what I am paying for.

Download reports by web browsers and Bit Torrent clients usually report download in kilo Bytes per second. With eight bits to the Byte, your reported download speed looks about right. The bit/Byte math isn't exact due to checkbits, but divide-by-ten is a good, rough estimate.

Thank you for clearing this up! I just looked up the conversion and I will check everything again. Now I do think it's me not understanding it and not the provider.

if it says kbps, then multiply that number - 150 by 8, you get 1200 kps or 1.2 mbps. There are 8 bits to a byte.
