Re: CH tandem breakers with red handles?

Why so many 20 amp breakers?

I'm guessing it might be time for a little electrical work.

Why would you want 15 amp circuits for outlets?

I have never seen a house wired for 20 amp outlets.
The wire is typically not of a sufficient gauge.

Pretty much the opposite here. Everything is wired with 12 gauge.

He must be from BC. BC uses a lot of 15 amp circuits. BC uses ABS instead of PVC drains.

The only ones I haven't seen with some 20 amp circuits were in the hills that REA wired with 110 volt 30 amp service. Single light socket in each room ceiling with drop cords running everywhere.

How can you POSSIBLY say this??? Can you see the wiring from where you are sitting?

MANY homes are wired with #12 and 20A for receptacles. To say that you have never seen this simply explains that you have not done electrical work in very many houses, which IMO is a good thing.

When I built my house I did the wiring. Their are no 15 amp circuits. I used 12/2 with ground wire so I could use 20 amp breakers. I was not worried about overloads as much.

technically you are correct on the first part, you rarely see a 20A outlet in a home. BUT 15A duplex outlets are rated for 20A pass thru and approved for use on a 20A circuit. i believe you only have to use 14g and a 15A breaker when running to a 15A single outlet, but i am not a sparky so i can't swear to that.

the 120v circuits in my house are wired entirely with 20A breakers and 12 guage, even my lighting circuits are 20A breakers feeding 12 guage wire, and it was built in 1978.
