| [DVR] My Father's Day Gift From Mediacom: DVR Won't Reset All I get on the DVR screen is "E1:26", then a channel number it was tuned into last, and then everything on the DVR display lights up, followed by "8888" Then it repeats the above over & over. It's a Motorola DCX 3400, and we had a power outage early this am (not storm related). Then I'm told they can't get to the house until Tue am. Multiple resets didn't help a bit, and the csr didn't even know if a reset would wipe out the HDD and/or the series recordings that are setup in the DVR. |
|
 | A reset sent from the office will not erase any of the data stored on the DVR. The only way to do this is directly at the box. It sounds like your box may need to be replaced. |

| reply to MediacomChad If you could notify the Iowa City office that I'll be down about 9 am to swap the box out for a new Pace RNG200n with a 500GB HDD, which is the DVR setup that a relative of mine has. He the one that's trying to get service in a new building that he's moving into on 7/1/2012. |
|
 | reply to wth depending on the type of hit they send, they most certainly can wipe the box of all settings. But at this point it doesn't matter. Your dvr is toast. I will say with almost 100% certainty that you will be getting a different box on Tuesday. |

At this time I have not been notified that we have started carrying the RNG200N. We do have the RNG150N which is physically identical, though without an internet hard drive and is used with the 500GB Jayhawk server for our multi-room DVR system.
Edit: With the RNG150N and a few other models we also have a 500GB external hard drive that can be used with the box for the DVR service. |

| reply to wth The Iowa City office gave me some old pace tdc779x box that shows 13% of the HDD space used for 2ea 1 hr HD programs, and the channel/time display doesn't light up (can't see it from 2' away), and changing the front display settings doesn't help. As for the Pace DVR, the CSR in the Iowa City office told me the pace box she gave me had the same size HDD as the old Motorola dcx3400 with 250GB HDD, which I found out is not true because the old Motorola 3400 only showed about 2% space used for each 1 hour of HD programming. So I haven't cancelled my appointment for Tue, so I'll see what the tech has to offer. |

| reply to wth tdc779x is the first generation DVR from Pace or at least the first one used by Mediacom. I believe they have a 120 GB HDD and a really bad front LED that is almost not visible in daylight and too bright at night. Very loud too. As a general rule any Pace DCT that is not black you should not use.
Unfortunately as MediacomChad stated Mediacom can not guarantee what DCT you will get. The only way to do it is if you know someone who's higher up in the company of if your neighbor is a regional VP. Or if you call someone at corp office.
A warehouse employee told me once several years ago "We are not Burger King, you can't have it your way!" after I showed him a work order where a customer was requesting a specific piece of equipment.
So now I just get whatever they give me and if a customer does not want it they can go to the local office and argue...I mean discuss the issue.
PS That BK comment was funny . I just don't think any subscriber would find it funny if I ever said something like that. -- I speak for myself, not my employer. |

Your right on every count, plus I can't even see the display at night. 5 hrs of programming takes 20% of the HDD space, twice as much as the dcx3400 with 250GB HDD. |
|
 | Power the box off and hit menu and adjust the front panel brightness. The HD in that model is a 160G not 120. Go buy a 1TB esata drive and call it good. Will work with any of the boxes and have enough for about anything you want. If the 250 was enough, bring it back to the office and ask for the Aspen or the DCX3400, the Aspen is much more common though and should be easy to get. |
|
 | In this area you can only get a DVR with an external HDD. They rarely have any of the all in one DVRs any more. -- I speak for myself, not my employer. |

Confirmed the channel/time display was burned out, and your right about the HDD size, as it was 160GB. Tech provided me with a Pace TDC787X w/250GB HDD, and with a working display. 250GB is plenty for us as we really don't use it for storage, but more for time shifting. Could not understand why the Iowa City office would pass & reissue a DVR with a display that doesn't work. To put in another way, it was trading in a $30,000 car even up for a $15,000 car, and having to still make the same monthly payment. |
