It's a little sad when your cell phone's internet is faster than your cable connection. agreed, I'm from the same area as you are and my 4G speed tests faster. Which brings me here, has anyone gotten those higher speeds yet? I'm looking to call them tomorrow as its been a week and see what the hold up is. |

I just got the upgrade here, at least on the upload side. I currently have Blast and my download is still at 30mbps. Upload has doubled though to 10+ mbps. Modem (TM502G 3 in 1 Arris) has been powercycled. Any ideas? |

For what it's worth Extreme 50 and 105 are in the system now for my area, although the area it's not D3 yet. Hoping that's a sign that it's to come soon. |

North York, ONI just re-ran the speed test using » speedtest.comcast.net/and got a download/upload result of 59 Mbps/10.39Mbps. The results from the comcast site are consistently better then other test results. Are they biased? can they be believed? |

The results from the comcast site are consistently better then other test results. Are they biased? can they be believed? I believe that when a Comcast customer uses the Comcast/Xfinity speedtest site, the servers they can select are all Comcast ones, so the data transfers stay within Comcast's network and don't experience any slowdowns that occur when interconnecting with servers in other ISP networks. If I select the same Comcast server on the similar » www.speedtest.net site, I get basically the same result, but if I select a server that is located much closer but which belongs to another ISP, the results I get are usually not as good. |

This raises an important issue: What is the purpose of a speedtest?
I use it for consistency. Am I getting a consistent speed over time. Therefore, I have no problem using the Comcast one.
For what am I really getting (no Speedboost Impact). Then I use ShaperProbe. |

I don't use speed tests for anything more than to verify that my connection is working as expected. It's simply a first step that I can take in troubleshooting before applying more exhaustive procedures. I could see in a few seconds that the recent upgrade was not in effect through a quick speed test. After resetting my modem/router, I could then verify that the speed increase was working, all through a simple online speed test. |

Not all areas got the upgrade at the same time. I heard some areas are getting it by the end of next month. |

Are you directly connecting (wired) or using a wireless connection? I found that wireless G was maxing out in the high 30's and wireless N is able to get the full bandwidth.
Also some wireless routers have a QOS setting which could be throttling the connection. Either turn off QOS on the wirelss router or if there are settings that would allow you to set the upload and download speed, set them to higher than your connection meaning 50/10 set it to 65/15 to not limit the additional throughput you can get above 50/10. |

Re: [Speed] Northeast speed changes coming.Your getting some pretty good download results. Your results can be deceiving because from test to test. But If you are consistently getting that speed from test to test, then you can confirm with speedtest.net which has more test sites. Of course I use shaperprobe and a number of other test sites. Also a lot of different conditions can produce different results even on the same machine not withstanding the conditions outside of the home. Example: Wireless N
Wireless G

I have an RCA modem and my account doesn't say BLAST, it says nothing. Do I need to contact Comcast?. I got the email. I think I need to have them fix my account and probably need a new modem. I currently get 25mbps and 4 mbps down checking speeds. Thank You. |

RCA modem is not a D3 modem approved by comcast, so yes you will need to change it out. I would call them just to make sure you are on Blast.
If you rent your modem just swap it out at the local service center. |

Frederick, MDI got the email, rebooted my modem and did some testing. I had the 50/10 tier and it was very consistent. Now I am getting 100/20 from what I can tell.
DiffProbe release. January 2012. Build 1008. Shaper Detection Module.
Connected to server 38.106.70.149.
Estimating capacity: Upstream: 21620 Kbps. Downstream: 122973 Kbps.
The measurement will take upto 2.5 minutes. Please wait.
Checking for traffic shapers:
Upstream: No shaper detected. Median received rate: 21018 Kbps.
Downstream: No shaper detected. Median received rate: 111888 Kbps.
