Just got the same E-Mail in Springfield, Mass and there is no threat of FiOS here (unless VZ decides in the future to build it here or AT&T could build U-Verse here if they bought VZ's Western Mass assets as U-Verse is available south of the border in Enfield, CT).

Re: [Speed] Northeast speed changes coming.

Not gotten any email yet here although I'm in the market area for a few that have gotten it so I wonder if calling would help push it along. I just managed to get the new 6120 firmware today also from a reset.

I just received the notice but I have to upgrade my modem. Any suggestions for a DOCSIS 3.0 modem. Or should I get one from comcast?

Theoretically any DOCSIS 3.0 modem should work.

I had originally bought a Motorola SB 6120, but it wouldn't work correctly with Comcast for some reason (upload speeds were being capped). I ended up going with a Zoom modem and that works fine.

I've gotten the email about the speed increase and my bill specifically mentions Blast!, but I'm only seeing 25/4 rates on speedtest.net. Is this correct, or should I see 50/10 as others are reporting?

I am using a new SB6121 modem. Baltimore area.

Re: [Speed] Northeast speed changes coming.

Remember that previously 35/6 was not a sustained rate, but a PowerBoosted rate so large files you would probably have less bandwidth during the download or upload. The previous rates were 25/4 so you were getting good speeds.

I have a SB6120 also and was on Ultra in Alexandria and only getting 33/7. Downgraded to Blast and now getting 50-55 down and 9.8-10.5. On average probably 52/10.

true true. i ran previous tests though (not on speedtest.net) and was getting around 30mbps steadily. this was tested via ftp transfers, looking at average speed, peak speed, etc.

for the same $72.99 i'll certainly take the upgrade...

I talked to a Tech on chat earlier today and she stated I should see an email soon about the upgrade but I'm still on DOCSIS 2.0 and the manager of the area told me that I wouldn't see 3.0 till next year but I'm assuming even 2.0 can get the 50/10 speeds.

Your assumption would be wrong, but if you are lucky and your node is not heavily loaded you might get up to ~35mbps downstream (but don't count on that being a reliable steady rate).

That wouldn't make sense then to tell me one thing and it be another.. according to the wiki I can get speeds down up to 42.88Mbps and upload up to 30.72Mbps and I know my node is not at all loaded down. If I can't get that full push they are advertising then perhaps its time to start blowing up their phones to see if I can get a push of DOCSIS 3.0 in this area a little faster. Seems they only get to really going with any upgrades around here if users complain enough.

Well that might be true that if enough customers complain, something gets accomplished, its also possible that it will fall on deaf ears. I mean who exactly would you be calling, the tech support and sales departments don't have any actual power, all they can do is say they'll take down the information and that's it, they don't actually have a direct contact with the Corporate office. The best bet would be to actually call their Corporate number in Philly, or speak to ComcastSteve, but although ComcastSteve is a god in the cable industry even he can't force an area to be ready for something they aren't any faster. I feel your pain and I understand your frustration so do know that.

You are wasting your time getting DOCSIS 3 pushed to you faster. Contacting ComcastSteve about when you'll get D3 won't get you anywhere because he has no idea about that stuff. I've been told from him directly for the last 2 years there is no ETA for the upgrade.

I was just offering you some real world advice, not the theoretical max limits that you would only see if you were the only user on your node.

Push as hard as you wish; I am not a Comcast employee, so it won't bother me at all. I hope you don't get too severe a headache from banging your head against the brick wall.

Hmm? I've had D3 for about three years now. I was just saying I feel his pain in wanting something and having to wait so long, such as the "world of more" HD rollout, the speed increase, IPv6 activation, to name a few.

Unplug the power to your modem for 10-30 seconds. Plug it back up. Re-test your speed once the modem is fully operational.

If you haven't yet done this before now, then your modem may download a new modem firmware and profile and could restart itself which may take longer to come back up.

Then re-test.

Well appears the phone call got them on the ball.. got my line upgraded to DOCSIS 3.0 over night now I just gotta call and complain about the speeds a little.. only getting around 36Mbps down and upload is horrible as in hardly 1Mbps.

See if you do a little complaining and pushing you get things done!
