Long John Baldry

quote:
John William "Long John" Baldry (12 January 1941 – 21 July 2005) was an English and Canadian blues singer and a voice actor. He sang with many British musicians, with Rod Stewart and Elton John appearing in bands led by Baldry in the 1960s. He enjoyed pop success in the UK where Let the Heartaches Begin reached No. 1 in 1967 and in Australia where his duet with Kathi McDonald You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin' reached number two in 1980. Baldry lived in Canada from the late 1970s until his death. There he continued to make records and do voiceover work. He was well known for the voice of Dr Robotnik in Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog.

Who? (I read the wiki bit - never heard of him).

The irony of common sense, it is not that common.
I cannot deny anything I did not say.

Probably his best known tune; at least in North America...

He never really made it big... He was around artists that broke (he was basically repsonible for Rod Stewart and Elton John...).

Did a TON of voiceover work once he moved to Canada, lots of commericals and cartoons - you've heard his voice, no doubt!

"Don't Lay no Boogie Woogie" is probably his best known song in North America - get's moderate rotation on "Classic Rock" radio stations.

You have been deprived of some most excellent music.
Long John Baldry is a staple, he for all intents and purposes "discovered" Rod Stewart.

More of a rockin' blues then the more traditional ones.

The Joe Jackson Video was interesting, because you had those 20 something year olds bopping around, to music their grand parents listened to. They probably had no idea who Cab Calloway or Big Band Music was, they just liked how Joe Jackson did it.
