Stability of new Actiontec N router?

I moved to a new home and had Fios installed (I also had it at my old home). Previously I had the Actiontec G router and it sucked. It would "hard lock" after a few days requiring a power-cycle/reset. I had a lot of ports mapped to various things -- cameras, remote desktop to a few PC's etc so I figured it just had a memory leak or something. I tweaked it to run in bridge mode (since I had to use the coax) and used a separate router. It was also pretty slow to move through the screens.

NOW, at my new place Verizon brought a new N router. It seems much faster in terms of navigating the admin web pages. I've had it less than 24 hours so can't say for sure, but -- Is this router more stable?

I also have an Asus RT-N66U which is awesome but I may not need it. Verizon did enable the Ethernet port on the ONT so switching routers should be pretty easy (I think).

separately I have a Linksys WRT54G running DD-WRT. I can't for the life of me get it to connect up with "Wireless Bridge" mode, but that's a battle for another day. Thanks

I ve had and used my mi424wr rev g for more than a year and it has been solid and stable beyond my expectations. my 150/65 internet service has stress tested 24/7 at times with no problems except the occasional freezeup every now and then-maybe twice in the last year

Hey I have nothing to offer about the verizon router, but with you mentioning having a Asus RT-n66u. I have the same router, and if I was you I would be using it as the main router. Because for one, it has option for using DD WRT, and Tomato firmware. Plus I know that router is running around at about $180, and I wouldn't be just letting my router sit around unused. Also I am sure the wireless range on the RT-N66U, is better then the verizon router.

I dislike the MOCA requirement so my setups are IP only (I have Tivo with cable cards and I'm not missing Verizon video on demand). Until my upgrade I had the old Actiontec in a box and used a Buffalo linkstation running DD-WRT. The new ActionTec rev I seems really fast and stable thus far so I plan on keeping it running.

My guess would be YES, this new router is more stable. Or maybe it has run for less time and has not gotten junked up yet. Some routers, including all builds of DD-WRT, allow you to schedule a reboot to clear crap out, and you could always do that with this machine, even if you had to use an external timer.

If you could ditch the bridge mode I think you might be happier.

P.S. I couldn't get other-branded stuff to do wireless bridge right with this Actiontec, either. Linksys would pair with Linksys, Netgear with Netgear, but in the end I bought a Netgear powerline kit and never looked back, that thing is rock-solid.

P.P.S. PS Vita seems to work much more smoothly with Actiontec's wifi for some reason. Game on.

Actiontec does not support wireless bridge mode, often called WDS. »Verizon Online FiOS FAQ »Does the Actiontec support Wireless Distribution System (WDS)?
