link light shows connection between your modem and router/pc/whatever is connected
if that is not lit you have a local issue, modem cat5 port, cat5 wire, nic card, router, etc...

Agree that if the "link LED" is not lit /flashing that indicates that no data is flowing between the modem and the router WAN port. Don't understand why you assume the problem has to be outboard of the modem as opposed to "in the modem (or its connection to the next device upline in the Comcast network)".
PS: "I'm better than you" is also an assumption on your part !!
