plencnerb posted : The way I solved that problem was to fix every music file I have to contain the right information.

Yes, it was a lot of work and research, but in the end, I was very happy with the results.

My first step was to make sure each music file was in the MP3 format. I had a few wma's and mp4's, etc. Maybe overkill, but I wanted them all to be the same format, so I went with mp3. That took some time, as I had to find free tools to convert from one format to the other, and in some cases, I had to convert a file multiple times to get it to mp3.

Then, I made sure that each file name was in the format "artist - song title". I then removed all meta data (used the option from the property screen to delete all the data) as well as any saved album art. Next, I went back in and filled in the info for Title, Contributing Artists, Album artist, Album, Year, and # (which, of course
is the track number of that given song from that album). Wikipedia was my friend for this task! :)

The result of doing this is the first picture above.

Again, a LOT of work, as I have over 350 mp3's. But, It sure looks nice in the end. And, when I'm playing them inside of Winamp, all of the correct information is listed. And yes, I did go back and manually add all the album art from inside of Winamp for every music file. Picture #2 shows what things look like in Winamp. And, when I added them there, I made sure they were in order (just like I have them inside of Windows Explorer).

--Brian
--
============================
--Brian Plencner

E-Mail: CoasterBrian72Cancer@gmail.com
Note: Kill Cancer to Reply via e-mail
<TABLE WIDTH=95% align=center border=0 CELLPADDING=4">

dave posted : Be careful - there's the number in the filename, but there may also be the track number in the file metadata. Renaming just the file does not change the stored number. I've run into situations where renaming confuses either me or Windows Media Player.

If you do the 'rename' insider WMP, then it'll change both numbers, assuming 'rearrange files to match rip settings' (or whatever it is) is on. But I know of no bulk solution for that. The renamer posted above claims to handle MP3 files; are these .mp3s?
<TABLE WIDTH=95% align=center border=0 CELLPADDING=4">
