[General] Peak Minutes, International Calls and Google Voice

I have an Android Verizon phone with Google Voice setup on it. The Google voice app allows people to make really inexpensive international calls to a lot of places that would cost a small fortune using the international rates Verizon Charges.

Never having used Google voice to place any international calls from the phone, please forgive what may be a dumb question:

If I make an international call during peak time using the Google voice App will that use any of my Verizon peak minutes?

It should just use your data not voice.

No, it will use regular peak minutes. When you dial you will see it will connect you to a bridging number with Google, and you will be charged peak/anytime minutes for the segment. You won't play for the international segment with Verizon, but you will be charged the applicable rate from Google Voice.

Thanks, So I guess there is no simple way to beat the peak time usage for International calls.

Try an app on android called talkatone. It will use your data instead of voice. My brother used it in Europe on his trip and all he used was data. It ties into Google Voice and makes/receives calls from your assigned number.
