fegulPremium join:2004-08-23 united state kudos:1 | [Need Info] Acronis True Image 2012: Yay or nay? So I'm looking to replace my Thinkpad's built-in imaging tool since it's crashing to the point where I can't create a bootable rescue disc.
Is True Image 2012 as good as the older True Images used to be or are there new kids on the block?
Thanks! -- Fegul.com |

| reply to fegul You might want to give Clonezilla a try. It can access a large host of different file systems and you can put the cloned disk image to multiple different locations using a large number of protocols.

Works flawlessly. Couldn't say the same for TI. |

I could never get Acronis 8 paid to work (although many here swore by it) but TI 10 is fine. I got it from Seagate's website several years ago when I bought a second internal hard drive. Then about a year later, Western Digital starting offering it free as did other drive manufacturers. The only difference between it and the regular paid TI 10 is that it won't do incremental images. That was fine with me as I have never had any luck with incremental ones. -- When governments fear people, there is liberty. When the people fear the government, there is tyranny. Thomas Jefferson |

I really like this software a lot only issue I have with it is the UI looks kind of old and out dated.
Other then that I think its wonderful! Its very fast at backing up and restoring whole images and is also very easy to use.
I just wish they would update the UI and lower the price would be nice so more people could afford it |

I like the interface too, gives techies like me confidence that it knows what it's doing and doesn't try to incorporate too much "magic" -- Fegul.com |

 | reply to fegul I used to use it and still have my paid for copy but its a real pain To many features of unneeded stuff Occasional blue screens locks to your equipment had to get it re authorized once. I use paragon free now it works but there is lots of other backup software to. -- Southern Ontario,Canada |

 | reply to fegul Windows 7 can make a bootable rescue disk and also make a full disk image, a bit slow but it works great. I do a full system backup once a month to an external drive and a data backup daily to another external drive. I've had to do a restore and you don't loose anything, programs, settings and all. computer is back to where it was at time of backup, then just copy my data back. |

 | reply to fegul Purchased ATIH 2012 Family Pack and the Plus Pack based on this forum's 2011 Member Choice FAQ's. However, the software seems to have "hit the fan" since the FAQ was posted. Reading posts on Acronis' web site indicates a bad state as they have a list of banned members.
In defense of the product, it has worked for me. I used ATIH 2012 to migrate Vista from single disk to RAID0 without a problem. MBR, boot order, registry... the whole nine yards just worked.
Cheers,
