anon posted : If you aren't using the FIOS TV service just ditch the Actiontec and use your own router. I am using the Linksys E4200 and it works great. If you are using the FIOS TV service, there is a way (many available guides if you search) you can set up the Actiontec secondary to another router, like the Linksys and that non-Actiontec router can be used as the primary while VOD and everything else works. This is how I have it setup at my house.

kes601 posted : Some are also routers so you have to manually (or perhaps through a setup wizard) put them in bridge mode so they won't hand out IP numbers and cause some internal network "issues" (that you may or may not even notice). I have an Apple Airport Extreme setup in bridge mode that works great. All my other products are Apple as well, so it made sense to go that route for me. Sounds like More Fiber's device would be quite easy to setup.

kittyzmom2 posted : I just upgraded my internet from 35/35 to 75/35 on Friday, but I discovered I can only get 75 Mbps download speed wired. I didn't find that out until yesterday when I contacted Verizon, and they informed me that my router isn't even capable of the 75 Mbps download speed via wifi. I have the standard Fios Actiontec router with max wifi speed 54 Mbps, and I can't even get that much.

I know wifi can be affected by several factors, so I wasn't expecting the max, but I can't get anything more than 38-39 Mbps. I was online with Verizon tech support yesterday for a long time, including being transferred to a supervisor. They tried several things on their end, but they couldn't improve my download speeds.

Meanwhile...all my devices are equipped for wireless N, so I wanted to know the best way to get it. Should I upgrade to the Fios N router, which I apparently can only order online? I checked with a couple of Verizon stores near me and they both told me the physical stores don't carry the N router.

Or should I buy a 3rd party wireless N router and bridge it to my current router? Is that more or less effective than upgrading my Fios router, or is it equal? And what is the best way to set up the two routers to work properly? I'm familiar with adjusting router settings onscreen, so I am not concerned with trying ;)

Thanks in advance!
