| reply to icemannyr1 said by icemannyr1:HBO on VHO7 is CCI 0x002. Non premium channels that are 0x00 have not changed. It's the same here, in VHO4, for Cinemax.
Although everything is still fine here for Epix, Showtime, TMC, and Starz which was expected. I don't have HBO though but if Cinemax is restricted then HBO will be too. |
|
 | reply to cheezmo Can someone explain to me why you would announce on a public forum (which I'm sure Verizon has assigned a "social media" employee to keep an eye on) that your VHO doesn't yet have the copy once flag on HBO?
Do you want Verizon to encrypt your HBO? |

icemannyr1 join:2001-04-11 Township Of Washington, NJ | I doubt Verizon is going to forget to turn the copy protection on.
Even with the setting still at 0X00 the HBO and Cinemax channels can not be recorded via FireWire to a computer so the change to 0X02 does not make a big difference. |

| reply to 09129800 Hmm, let's see - Verizon sent out a letter stating certain premium channels will have copy protection enabled after a specific date. 'Certain' providers want Verizon to start enforcing the CCI flag to help protect content. Verizon isn't doing anything outside what their carriage agreement states. And Verizon isn't 'encrypting' anything - they are just enforcing the CCI flag that the provider sends. |

Which is exactly my point - when you're in a VHO where you got lucky that someone at Verizon forgot to flip the CCI switch then it's a dumb idea to announce that information.
Keep it secret! Keep it safe!

There's no "getting lucky" about it. You can bet HBO has people all over the country checking to make sure VZ has added the CCI flag as mandated. |

It can take a week or two to add a channel to each VHO. This is no different. Verizon isn't just going to forget to "flip a switch." |

 | Well, as I suspected would happen, my CableCARD equipped TVs can no longer tune to any of the HBO or Cinemax channels. This is after spending several hours on the phone with Verizon in early July when I received my letter. Three calls and replacement cards have still not resolved my issues.
I guess it's time for another call to tech support but I'm not too optimistc they'll be able to resolve it, as I'm not sure my older TVs support Simulcrypt, which I guess is in use in MA due to the mixed Motorola/Cisco boxes in this VHO. |

Grover8 join:2012-01-06 Fresh Meadows, NY | reply to cheezmo I can confirm that HBO and Cinemax are now being flagged. I had to get my two cetons reactivated to watch it again. The recorded file will not play on another pc nor be edited or exported.
Good luck everyone. Verizon is now like the rest. |

Good luck everyone. Verizon is now like the rest. Well not exactly like the rest. Only HBO and Cinemax are flagged. The other Premium channels can still be transferred without issue. With some of the other cable companies those are flagged as well. |

 | Time to unsubscribe from HBO and Cinemax. |

 | said by cheezmo:Time to unsubscribe from HBO and Cinemax. If HBO's plan with this was to encourage piracy of their content then they've certainly succeeded.
I won't be renewing my HBO or Cinemax either. Pirated copies of HBO shows don't have any DRM.
I don't see why I should be expected to pay money for such heavily locked down copies of content. |

You could get HBO for a day by subscribing today and canceling tomorrow.
Unless, of course, you're on a free 3 month trial. |

 | Not sure how this effects me yet ,but just curious doe the directv MRV dvr let them stream their preminmun channels to other dvrs in the house? I guess i should ask this question at DBSTALK. |

ThinkdiffPremium,MVM join:2001-08-07 Bronx, NY kudos:6 | Streaming is allowed, which is why the TiVo Premier can also stream CCI flagged content to other TiVos.
Transferring (if a local copy is stored on the receiving device) is not allowed. -- University of Southern California - Fight On! |

 | I have Tivo HD's which transfer rather than stream. So I can't record on one and watch on the other.

Transferring (if a local copy is stored on the receiving device) is not allowed. Correct. You need to use TiVo Premieres to stream |

 | reply to DGGSLF So I had another troubleshooting session with tech support on Sunday night when they called the house to see if my problem receiveing HBO and Cinemax was resolved. After a half hour, the young lady agreed to send a technician out with M Cards, since she thought the S Card could be the problem. Give this lady a raise!!
Anyway, a tech showed up yesterday and didn't know why he was there. He had no cards on the truck, so I knew this was a waste of time. He calls the depot and after his lead guy told him that CableCARDS were no longer supported, I knew it was time to see what my next move should be. He left my house and half hour later, I received a text saying my ticket was closed, though nothing was done. Some service!
This morning I went to the Verizon store and swapped the S Card from my Sony TV for an M Card. I called the activition line and after talking to a live person for 15 minutes, I now have my HBO and Cinemax channels back on the Sony. BTW, I tried the M Card on the Sharp TV and it would not even recognize that a card was plugged in, so it looks like only an S Card will work for that TV which is eight years old.
This tells me that lack of support for simulcrypt may not be the issue after all. The fact that an M Card works for the Sony TV which is seven years old, tells me that Verizon needs to figure out how to provision the other TV using S Card.
Why would the M Card work on the Sony TV but not the original S Card that had to be swapped out?
I now need to open another ticket to focus on just the Sharp which can only support an S Card. |
