Charter is Getting Rid of PowerBoost (SpeedBoost)

To everyone, please, if you read this thread and are experiencing the same issue PLEASE tell is if your modem is DOCSIS 2.0 or DOCSIS 3.0 and weather you are using your own modem or Charter's modem, Thank you.

I normally always get 22-30mbps on my 15/3 plan but now I'm all of a sudden getting 15 all the time.

Did Charter do away with speed boost? Or have they taken away speed boost on customer owned modems?

Just a few days ago:

Re: [Speed Issues] SpeedBoost Outage?

Personally,
That site sucks, as do most flash based speed tests. That site seems to be running rather slow right now also, anyway.

This is slightly slow for me. I'm on the same plan as you. My upload is always lower due to QoS settings for my Vonage phone.

Try »www.testmy.net.

Showing about the same as speedtest.net.

What modem are you using? DS3 or DS2? If yours is DS3 I'm going to start wondering if Charter has killed SpeedBoost for DS2 users.

There is also »www.megapath.com/speedtestplus/ which seems to use a combo of Flash and JAVA.

Signals look ok.
Downstream Receive Power Level : 0.0 dBmV
Downstream SNR : 38.3 dB
Upstream transmit Power Level : 40.7 dBmV

I haven't seen any Speedboost for a while either. I have the 30mpbs plan and it used to spike up to 40-50mbps and hold that for a short while (30-60 sec from memory) then drop back to ~30. For some time now it's been no speed spike or maybe just a split second bump, then 30-32mbps pretty steady.

The graph across the bottom shows a really short spike that was up around 50 then quickly dropped back to ~30.

I just check this and I appeared to be only getting 13 meg... Just a few days ago I was consistently getting 30 meg for sustained periods of time with speed boost. Wonder if it's going away...

Do you have a DOCSIS 3 or a DOCSIS 2 modem?

I'm looking for a pattern.

If Charter took away SpeedBoost from everything pre-DOCSIS 3.0 to get people to get their modem I smell a law suit.

To everyone, please, if you read this thread and are experiencing the same issue PLEASE tell is if your modem is DOCSIS 2.0 or DOCSIS 3.0, Thank you.

And if its owned and rented. I suspect that they got rid of speed boost for customer owned modems as some twisted incentive to move to a rented modem and a new package.

im on the 100meg tier, so I dont get speed boost, but I suspect that its been pulled from all customer owned modems, or people that are not on the new speed tiers, if they are offering it at all anymore.

Do you actually get 100 on that? (Assuming you have a gigabit router and gigabit NIC to handle it, otherwise you're going to get about 70-80)

yup, I get a steady 12.8MB/s download speed on good DDL sites and torrents. Also get the full 100mbps on speedtests(very few, since very few can handle the full 100mbps.

As a side note, many services are not set up to handle the full 100mbps speeds yet. Steam gets about 10MB/s on downloads, game updates get around 11MB/s, but website downloads seem to stall around 5MB/s. Guess it just depends on how much bandwidth they dedicate to a single IP, and how much they pay for.

Re: [Speed Issues] PowerBoost (SpeedBoost) Outage?

I don't know when this was last updated:

PowerBoost is an enterprise wide feature that provides our Internet subscribers’ modems with a short boost of performance in download speeds.

The boost occurs during file downloads and when loading complex web sites. During this window you may see an initial boost to download speeds for about 3 seconds, then your modem speed returns to the normal level.

The speed and length of PowerBoost is dynamic, fluctuates, and is dependent on network traffic.

PowerBoost is available to Express, Plus, and Max (Grandfathered) Internet tiers.

PowerBoost is not available to Lite or Ultra subscribers.

lawsuit based on what? Since when is speedboost a right? At one time Charter never had it. They can take it away any time. It's an extra feature.

So, this makes 2 customer owned modems that are not getting the benefits of speedboost. 1 D3, and 1 D2. Seems like a pattern is developing here. Anyone else experiencing speedboost problems?

For initiating a malicious business practice that basically blackmails customers into "upgrading" to the new plans and modems to get back what they once had.

Did it ever occur to you that it benefits everyone that Charter has only docsis 3.0 modems on their network?

Yeah were always last Charter hates us. Or perhaps it's your modems. Maybe YOU'RE justifying Charter's new rule.
