Re: [Speed Issues] SpeedBoost Outage? So, this makes 2 customer owned modems that are not getting the benefits of speedboost. 1 D3, and 1 D2. Seems like a pattern is developing here. Anyone else experiencing speedboost problems? |

so much for your theory |

so much for your theory Actually, I had ran a test from Charter, which was better than the test I ran from testmy.net, after replying at the beginning of this topic. Like I said, speedtest.net sucks!! Was pegged at over 60Mbps on this Charter test for a bit!

| Still no improvement here:

It CLIMBS to this speed and NEVER EXCEEDS, when before it would start higher and drop down to about 18-22mbps. -- CompTIA Network+ Certified |

 | Just a thought, but maybe it's time to get rid of that junk DOCSIS 2 modem you have?
No real spikes in speed, but stayed at this speed through the whole test. -- The Firefox alternative. »www.mozilla.org/projects/seamonkey/ |

FWIW, here's Charter's speed test result. Again, I have the 30Mbps service. The initial spike showed roughly 80, maybe 90, Mbps. |

No real spikes in speed, but stayed at this speed through the whole test. Well there has been another in this thread with a DOCSIS 2.0 that is still getting their powerboost but there has also been one in this thread with a DOCSIS 3.0 that IS NOT getting their powerboost. The problem seems totally random.
I do intend on going to the local office the next time I go to town to get the new 30/4 $29.99 plan and a new DOCSIS 3.0 modem.

DrDrewSo that others may surf. join:2009-01-28 SoCal kudos:10 | You do realize that PowerBoost is only available when the channel your modem is on has excess bandwidth capacity available right?
If the channel doesn't have excess capacity, you won't see PowerBoost. If fact if the channels are really short on capacity relative to demand you may not even see the max speeds your tier should allow normally. Since a DOCSIS 2 modem only connects to 1 downstream and 1 upstream channel at a time, chances are it won't see excess capacity available as often as a DOCSIS 3 modem that connects through channels simultaneously.
I'd say your not seeing a Charter conspiracy to get rid of PowerBoost on non-DOCSIS 3 modems. I'd say your seeing network congestion, which affects DOCSIS 2 modems before DOCSIS 3 modems. -- If it's important, back it up... twice. Even 99.999% availability isn't enough sometimes. |

| So you think it's just coincidence that "network congestion" starts the exact day as Charter changes their packages? Because I have NEVER not seen powerboost on a speed test until Charter changed their packages. I've even tested in the middle of the night, powerboost has not come back once since the changes. -- CompTIA Network+ Certified |
