Sports channels are so damn expensive and popular, so the best option is to make all sport channels premium channels so those who dont care about them dont have to waste a large chunk of money on them every month.

I agree to an extent but I think there is a reason that most TV companies do not stand up to most sports channels and that is because sports fans are IMO the most passionate and would change if they didnt get what they wanted.

I could be wrong though....I just know that it seems on this site and others that when a channel may be a pulled and a person cant see their team, they seem the most passionate about GETTING a resolution for it and that at the end of the day, they WILL see their tea

They do. But as the customer, you have the choice to get them out of the thin blue sky for absolutely free. You won't get a whole LOT of channels, maybe 15 or 20, but its free.

AMC will lose those 14 million for sure tomorrow. But can they afford to lose 6 million more? AT&T has the advantage in these negotiations, and they can afford to go "black" for a week or two without really being afraid of losing many customers. And even then, customers probably won't switch providers over AMC and the other channels listed.

But how long can AMC go without 20 million potential advertising watchers? They know they will lose the 14, but 6 more.... is a good kick in the balls for them.

DirecTV's contract was renewed in 2011, and since these are usually negotiated for 3 to 5 years, those 20 million subs are safe till at least 2014..... but there are many cable outlets that might have to renew soon as well.

I will side with AT&T and other TV providers on these things, the amounts of money stations have been asking to cover their advertisement income losses over the last few years due to the bad economy is sickening.

AMC's top guy, Sapan? Made almost 12 million dollars last year, most of it in stock awards and bonuses. His income increase since 2010? A 85% raise.

And what, he wants AT&T and Dish (and other providers) to pay his bonuses?

I had no problem with the Tribune stations going black on DirecTV in May for a few weeks.... Media companies are starting to get out of control, and customers will end up footing the bill.

Still, a Mad Man episode is 47 minutes on the DVD's, so it can't be THAT bad..... Unless they cut pieces out.

They won't. AMC has already agreed to renewal of season 6 and 7. And 7 seasons is sort of the "sweet spot" of most TV series, the perfect time to end a successful run of a show, go to something else, do not end up with a DVD collection that costs a fortune to buy, still have enough material to show re-runs and do marathons, etc.... So they will most likely end the show with season 7 in 2014, or pick up an 8th season if the numbers really never dropped and they keep a good storyline going.

As far as DISH goes by the way, from the main page at dbstalk.com:

"DISH to Replace AMC With Commercial-Free HD Movies (New Programming Also Slated to Replace IFC, WE). HDNet Movies, HDNet, and Style slated to replace AMC channels dropped this weekend."

I guess its nice they pulled HDNet/HDNet Movies out of the HD pack for Dish Subscribers. But Dish isn't really in a dispute, they just pulled the plug and said: We had enough of you. :D

Mad Men is an awesome series.

Dish is dropping them outright by the way, with AT&T there is still a chance they will get to an agreement. Personally, I tend to side with the tv distributor on these things..... media companies like AMC have been upping their prices to ridiculous amounts, in some cases (don't know about this one) as crazy as a 300% increase, even a 600% increase at some point with Washington State locals.

Eventually, we, the viewers, will get shoved the bill.

Let the mudslinging continue.... and of course no one is going to say what the amount is what they are fighting for..... errr.... increasing our bills with.

Dish is also dropping AMC.
