Re: Goodbuy Comcast Hello Fiber Franklin indiana and area Since it's close to comcasts existing pricing, perhaps it is competive for those speeds. more important is it offers an alternetive. I think (from reading their site) this is more about making money on/offering MUCH higher priced business accounts, and maybe cashing in on tiered higher residental if there is demand.
Any overbuilder is in a risky situation to start since you NEVER have full access to 100% of potential subs, you have to offer something special to build market share (same reason FIOS is faultering, cost per home passed is very high for a average take rate.) |

 | those prices suck but i might get it anyway just for the better pings... maybe
not that it's availbale in my area anyway.
EDIT: looking at speeds again lol no 50/3? Wat is this crap needs 2 be atleast 50/50
Even Comcast is cheaper by a good amount |

 | reply to indy0365 What kind of set top boxes do they use? How much hard drive on the DVR? What software do they use to run the TV portion? Is it an HD interface? Is it like Fios, U-Verse, DirecTV or is it low res like Comcast, Cablevision and heck most if not ALL cable providers?
Does it have widgets and apps? Is it "IPTV" ? |

Does it have widgets and apps? Is it "IPTV" ? more than likely like uverse almost all of the FTTH setups that I have seen are usually using Motorola or Cisco IPTV settops with the Microsoft software on it. The only exception is Fios and a Telco in North Texas that put in Fiber to the home in one of their communities but the rest of their footprint is 750MHz HFC and the FTTH areas run motorola boxes with iGuide and 750MHz worth of services. The company is called Nortex and their pricing is not what I would consider competitive with Comcast or TWC pricing. |

I sent email asking what type of setup they have this is the answer I got
Gpon from Alcatel is correct for our fiber plant. We have that coupled with an excellent IPTV platform from Microsoft.
It is the fiber equpment you would see with Verizon fios and the cable equipment you would see with AT&T and many other carriers cable tv.
how metronet started »www.indianaeconomicdigest.com/ma···ID=20066
In August of 2004, Jim Moseley, Deputy Secretary of USDA visited Greencastle to announce the award of a $106.70 million loan to Cinergy MetroNet to provide modern telecommunications systems to 11 small and mid-sized, mostly rural Indiana communities.
so if is the fiber equpment you would see with Verizon fios
would the install be the same ? as verizion ?
or try chattanoga fios

 | Oh well the Microsoft IPTV system is much nicer than any guide you would get from Comcast, Time Warner, Cox, Charter, Mediacom, WOW, Knology, and others.
It's nice you have that choice so at least you can try it out.
I think it would run MoCA over coax to the IP STB so they can reuse the existing coax wiring in the house. Then MoCA to something like an Actiontec wifi router to get your internet. Otherwise they could run cat5 from the ONT but that adds complexity and expense to the job. Most homes already have coax prewired so MOCA technology really made these installs much easier. |
