| reply to chachazz That's right I will use Mozilla's technology to my advantage if my kids don't delete these folders themselves. Regardless what's the big deal since most of the people who responded to this thread think the information store in these folders are OK. -- Desktop Win 7 x64 Emsisoft Anti Malware v6.6, Laptop Win 7 x64 & Desktop XP Pro Emsisoft Anti Malware v6.6 & Online Armor Premium v5.5, Netbook Win 7 Starter and Netbook XP Home Avast 7, MBAM and Hitman Pro used on-demand only. |

1 edit | reply to jmorlan said by jmorlan:I'm having trouble understanding why smart folders are more of a privacy issue than the history folder. The history can be cleared. But I wonder if you set Firefox to clear your browsing history and cache when you close the browser if it will also delete the content of these folders. If it does, then this is not too bad. But I would still rather not have them. -- Desktop Win 7 x64 Emsisoft Anti Malware v6.6, Laptop Win 7 x64 & Desktop XP Pro Emsisoft Anti Malware v6.6 & Online Armor Premium v5.5, Netbook Win 7 Starter and Netbook XP Home Avast 7, MBAM and Hitman Pro used on-demand only. |

No what trigger this thread was the fact that one of my kids was looking up something quickly in my account and using my Firefox. I had just recently started using nothing but Firefox again after mainly using Chrome for the last 6-8 months.
After he got off the PC I panicked when I realized that if he had looked at my smart folders he could see some of the adult sites I had recently bookmarked and visited. But regardless that's my business since I'm over 21. -- Desktop Win 7 x64 Emsisoft Anti Malware v6.6, Laptop Win 7 x64 & Desktop XP Pro Emsisoft Anti Malware v6.6 & Online Armor Premium v5.5, Netbook Win 7 Starter and Netbook XP Home Avast 7, MBAM and Hitman Pro used on-demand only. |

 | reply to gugarci said by gugarci:Stop defending this feature. It should be turned off by default. Even my wife did not like the fact that those folders showed that info and had me delete them. And all of her most visited sites and recently bookmarks were rated "G".
On a side note my wife like to visit QVC a lot and that explains all the UPS packages. I'm not so much defending the feature as attacking your rant against it. I quickly and without any fuss disabled it on my machine. Anyone concerned about their privacy might want to as well. Your assertion that everyone would want it off might be incorrect, though.
Anyway the more I see of your take on the issue the more sure I am you're dead wrong. It can be disabled - you know how or can find out how - what the hell is the problem? You got reamed by the wife so you came here to pass it on??? |

| reply to gugarci How did I get reamed by my wife??? No one saw the sites in my smart folders. And If if she had I would of told her point blank "if you were putting out more frequently, I wouldn't need them". Doesn't get any simpler than that. But if my kid had seen it, it wouldn't of been this simple.
Also outside of completely deleting them, there's no simple way of disabling them. There's no on/off button for the smart folders.
If I lived alone and there was no chance that anyone, a friend or relative, would ever ask me if they could look up something really quickly on my PC. I would leave them on. I guess the only other thing you can do for situations like this is to set up a guest account. But why should I have to. They should put an option in the settings to enable or disable them. -- Desktop Win 7 x64 Emsisoft Anti Malware v6.6, Laptop Win 7 x64 & Desktop XP Pro Emsisoft Anti Malware v6.6 & Online Armor Premium v5.5, Netbook Win 7 Starter and Netbook XP Home Avast 7, MBAM and Hitman Pro used on-demand only. |

So, are you saying this is simply all due to an unfortunate case of an improperly maintained extension? |
