dta's will work with very poor signal, if it's going out there should be a noticeable problem when the tech checks whether it is visible or not. Could be all kinds of stuff, bad piece of cable, bad fitting, physical damage, or a bad dta. The list of probables is long, beyond the scope of the end user really.
