Wrong profile!?

I just had a FTTP install. According to customer service, the profile in the system says I can only get up to 18mbits Internet, but shouldn't I actually be able to get 24mbits with FTTP?

I've read that there's a way to have your profile corrected/updated if it's incorrect. Can anyone tell me how I can get my profile corrected?

Thanks in advance!

That is the best FTTP users get... the 18Mbps.

Whoa, really? Shouldn't fiber be "unlimited" speed? What's the reason for the limit of 18mbits if I have fiber running to my house? Thanks for the quick reply!

AT&T doesn't consider fiber to be important. With U-Verse fiber, it is really a software fix they should have fixed years ago, but they fact that they didn't shows they really don't believe in fiber. They deployed fiber from the start in several greenfield communities in the early 2000s, but in newer builds they went back to copper.

Chances are actually quite high you can get better speeds with your cable company in these AT&T fiber communities. It's sad, but they sort of neglected the fiber customers. They launched 24/3 about 2 years ago for copper customers, but fiber customers were left in the dark, when their infrastructure could easily handle it. Not sure why they stopped caring, but they have.

One reason is that they don't want to "fuel the fire" so to speak. If they are going to offer Verizon-like speeds in fiber communities, other U-Verse customers would only be screaming louder about giving them fiber also. By not treating fiber customers differently, or in this case worse than copper customers.... they aren't getting too much mud slung at them. Just from us here at DSLR.

Thanks so much for the thorough reply. It really is too bad that I have fiber and can't take advantage of the available bandwidth. Oh well, maybe someday they'll fix it, but I hear what you're saying and it sounds like you're right. They're holding back the speed so they don't have an insane flood of complaints from the majority of users who don't have fiber. Sigh.

Yes, I know it sucks but do you know that at&t have wonderful plans for the next 20 years? Maybe in 20 years

Read the lengthy discussion in the thread below:

»AT&T U-verse FTTP speeds, why do they limit fibre to 18/1.5?
