Re: Internet Improvements

small brown box
Does Bell and Cogeco both work on the nodes? There is an brown box up the street from me which Bell usually works on all the time and now there is a Cogeco service van near the box.
Here is a picture of that box. What is that box for?

That's a Bell box called a JWI. Telephone lines in a neighbourhood congregate there before heading off to the CO. Sometimes you'll see an extra box or two strapped onto the side or back of those things. Those are DSL RSLAMs for ADSL2 and VDSL2.

Those boxes have nothing to do with Cogeco. The Cogeco boxes are usually cube shaped, not as tall and green coloured.

Then why would a Cogeco service guy be near one of those boxes? This guy was not doing an house call because he was wearing an orange safety vest with yellow reflectors on it.

Who knows, I can't read the guy's mind. Those brown boxes have nothing to do with Cogeco though, and I don't need to be able to read his mind to know that.

That's a Bell JWI (Jumper Wire Interface/Interconnect) panel.

I doubt that Bell would be sharing that with Cogeco.

Cogeco tends to hang much of their stuff from the poles, but their nodes might be in a building here and there.

(1) Spying on Bell

(2) His brother was being held captive in one of those panels

(3) Waiting for the Bell tech to arrive so that they could go to Timmies together on their break

(4) He had a bomb he wanted to plant there

(5) He was going to defect to Bell and wanted to ask the Bell tech how

(6) He heard that the Bell Beavers were going to do a new photo shoot at that location, and wanted a job as an 'Extra' on the set

I could go on....

No, it's not. That's a JWI used for twisted pair telephone cabling. It is not a coax box. It is not Cogeco. End of story.
