| [TWC] Maine: D3 modem on Turbo I heard that TWC now has D3 in the southern Maine (biddeford/saco) market. Grandma currently has a D2 EMTA on turbo. I am wondering if I could swap it for a D3 EMTA at the office in Saco.
She currently has an Ubee D2 EMTA.
I could also purchase a Motorola SB 6121 at Best Buy (looking to upgrade anyways) and give her my Motorola 6120 that I currently have installed on my Comcast connection at home.
Her internet (turbo) is kind of sluggish. My VZW mobile hotspot performs better (now that Maine has 4G LTE) than Grandma's TWC connection but I try entering 192.168.100.1 into the browser and I am currently unable to access the TWC cable modem's diagnostic page. |

| if your area is indeed D3 serviceable, which can only be found with a call to customer service (ask them to check the Serviceability screen see what they say), then the only benefit of upgrading to a new modem but keeping your current speed tier is the channel bonding. The thing is, TW does not include PowerBoost on D3 equipment, but your connection is likely to be more consistent due to the multiple channels; a double-edge sword. If you upgrade past Turbo, to at least Extreme, then a D3 modem would be a great investment. Hope this helps. -- I see what you're saying, even though I'm really just listening... |

Neither the 6120 or the 6121 are approved customer owned modems so that would not work either.

JabbuPremium join:2002-03-06 | reply to IowaCowboy A D2 modem alone isn't going to create a sluggish issue, a D3 modem should not resolve this either.
A bad modem in general can create issues, which can be resolved/troubleshooted by simply swapping the modem at the local office. |

Any modem you try to activate has to be on this list, and they seem pretty strict about that.

If it is still the case, at least TWC includes the modem in the price of their internet/phone service (Grandma is not being charged modem rent on her bill last time I checked which was today). Back home in Mass, Comcast charges $7 per month for modem rental, and I have owned my modem (have bought new modems over the years due to obsolescence) ever since I have had broadband dating back to 2001 when I upgraded from dial-up to broadband (through both Comcast 2003 onwards and Mediacom 2001-2002, which I had many years ago back when I lived in Iowa). I have had DSL in 2002 when I moved to Mass because Comcast was in the process of rebuilding the system to support digital cable and HSI. |

I got my 6141 off of Amazon and i dont believe there was any other retail sales channels available for it at the time (was through third party seller). -- Usenet Block Accounts | Unlimited Accounts |

 | So how stable is D3 in Maine? when I used to have turbo here in Bangor pre D3 it was all over the place with peaktime slowdowns being the norm. |

Before channel bonding with my 5100 I had turbo speeds of about 5 mbits most times. Once channel bonding was active I was back to full speeds with my old 5100. Now that I have a new modem it is still great. -- Usenet Block Accounts | Unlimited Accounts |
