If you use it, it'll make a hell of a mess, and glue the AC in. I wouldn't do it.

As mentioned before, get some foam backer rod. It is a round foam strip available in different diameters. You can find it in the weatherstripping area or for the large size (1") possibly the concrete area of Lowes or Home Depot. It is compressible so you can get a larger size than the gap you are trying to fill. Just cut to length and stuff into the cracks.
