It's only 33C in Ottawa. Looks like Death Valley here with all the burnt lawns. Nice day to stay inside.

Ottawa might break the record for today as well. Environment Canada shows 34C current, and a 34.1C record from 2010.

Right now EC shows 35.1C for Toronto.

I've been to Vegas in the summer and the daytime temps were 110F to 115F which is approaching that 47C you mentioned. I disagree with those who insist it's not bad because it's not humid. Hot is hot and when a breeze feels like it's coming from a furnace that's too much. Oh well, at least the a/c always works in the casinos.

I've got 35.5C outside off my thermometer, probably broke the record here as well. But EC doesn't record from Woodstock anymore(it's London) including official data.

When I was a kid, I went to death valley, that was hot. It was one of the record setting years back in 88, I think it was 54C on the visit, and there was when we were driving through Arizona, around 1am and the temperature was still around 45C. Though the stars went on forever at the time, not so much when I went through last year, too much light pollution now. But we were driving EC to WC through the heat wave and I can remember how hot it was back then too. Lot of places were all kinds of special blistering heat that summer.

Yes, it is working nicely. Though tonight we are heading to the cottage, where the low is supposed to be a nice 17C

It's 23C in my house and 34C outside. I've been in and out of the house dropping off and picking up the kids at daycamps and friends and man the car is hot until the a/c kicks in.

Toronto Hydro has suffered its second blackout in 24hrs. Last night a large swat of downtown was out, and I just read that the Guildwood area of Scarborough is out now.

As many of you know they went to the OEB for a massive increase to replace their old equipment. The talking mouthpieces have been emphasising the age of the equipment in their releases.

No, I didn't. Honest... I ran out of gas. I... I had a flat tire. I didn't have enough money for cab fare. My tux didn't come back from the cleaners. An old friend came in from out of town. Someone stole my car. There was an earthquake.......

Power was out here for 2 hours (just outside of guildwood & kingston road) but It's been glitchy since it came back, with my UPS'es blinking between AVR Boost & AVR Trim several times within the last hour...

Ottawa seems to have broken the old record of 34.1C with 34.4C recorded earlier this afternoon at the airport. Humidex reading was, if memory serves, 42. I guess I've been spending too much time outside as I found it hot, but not unbearable, thanks to the breeze. I wouldn't want to be roofing or laying tarmac though.

Today of all days I had an errand to run in Toronto and had to leave my (relatively) cooler suburban domicile. Didn't get around to leaving until late afternoon. I have the car thermometer set to real degrees (not communist European Celsius ) but anyway it registered 95 as I was leaving and stayed that way until I hit the urban heat island around Richmond Hill when it jumped to 98, and as I got closer to the city, 99, and then 100. Once when I was stopped on the 401 with the sun radiating off the pavement, it registered 105!!

Hot while driving on the 401 Kitchener-Guelph, temperature read 38C though 34C once back on country roads. Pretty sure the temperatures close to the surface -- say 0-10 feet was much closer to 37C or 38C just about everywhere. Clappison Corners (Highway 6&5) in Hamilton was reading 37C. Only the second time I've seen above 37C, last year it was 39C when I left Vaughan. But again, that's the temperature at 5 feet or so.

Today was simply gross though.

My grass is green because I soak the crap out it at least twice week with the sprinkler during these heatwaves.
